Favorites: Alamo BBQ’s brisket sandwich
01/17/2013 10:15 AM by John M
As part of his ongoing series of Favorites, Daniel Warshaw got this great photo of the Alamo BBQ brisket sandwich.
Richmond has a number of decent BBQ joints smoking brisket, but none do it better than Alamo BBQ. Their sandwich ($6.25) is piled with slices of just the right thickness, and the meat is so gloriously smokey and flavorful that I’m usually still tasting it after the food is gone.
Other recent local Favorites include WPA Bakery’s apple pie with cheddar cheese, The Roosevelt’s mussels, and Proper Pie’s chicken and kumara savory pie.
my “honest” first experience was NOT GOOD, my barbeque sandwich was lukewarm and tasteless, sweet potatoes were good but really sweet, pecan pie was very small fo the price but really good, portabello wrap was ok (never had one before), they forgot to give me my greens (very disappointed after waiting in freezing cold for my order)…had a groupon worth $20 and was told that I had to spend at least $22.49 (I don’t think tht was fair)….I have another groupon, so I will give them another try!
Yet another shameless promotion of a business on here. Thanks for posting this “news.” Glad you’re sharing Daniel Warshaw’s opinion. Here’s mine. This place is small and dirty and the food mediocre at best.
Glad you take the time to read and complain about it MARS. Your opinion is truely valued, thanks.
So I love Alamo – I’ve always been impressed by the great veggie options available at a meat joint, BUT what’s going on lately? My husband’s vegetarian trainwreck was made with cowboy beans which thus meant it was so not vegetarian. Our dog was pretty stoked though.
The food is pretty good…I think Q is better and has far better service. The folks at Alamo have that emo attitude that I can do without. And I agree, the place needs a good scrub down, some overall repair and paint, and a general clean-up, coordination of signage, fixtures, tables, etc. The place is just dirty and rundown.
