Theft from shed on 27th Street
01/18/2013 11:48 AM by John M
I’d like to warn others about suspicious activity, and also see if there’s a chance we could recover our things.
We looked inside our (locked) shed last night to discover that our orange Husqvarna brand lawnmower and Craftsman weedwhacker have been stolen. Not sure exactly when it was stolen, but it would have been within the last week. The shed was locked, and the lock was not broken, but the lock was a standard doornob and the criminals obviously found a way around that. Our shed is located inside of our fenced backyard which opens to the alleyway.
We live in the 800 block of 27th Street. We are offering a monetary reward if our items are returned, and we’d appreciate any leads.
We live in the 500 block of 27th St and had someone get into our shed in November. They stole a bike and some tools. We had just built it and hadn’t put a lock on yet. We’ve got one now!
I live on the 500 block on 26th & my shed was broken in to on November 27th between 1pm-6pm. Shed was locked, they snapped off the door hinge & also kicked in another entry point. Took off with a set of porter cable power tools (circular saw, drill, etc). I actually email CHPN on the 28th as I felt it would be helpful to give others in the area a heads up, but unfortunately that message went ignored. Good luck in getting your things back.
I purchased two different sheds, several years apart from different places and the same key opens both. I’ve been wondering about the security of that. I should probably add a padlock, because perhaps someone simply used a key they happened to have to steal the items above.
Sorry to hear that this has happened to others nearby 🙁 We were very upset to see those things missing from the shed… We’ll definitely be ramping up our security and keeping an eye (or a camera) out. Good luck to everyone!
I too live on 27th and had my shed broken into in November. I also sent an email to CHPN and called the police. Neither has responded back! I find this to be quite disturbing as there has been a rise in property crime proven by the last sector report. I plan on protecting my property as I see fit. If someone enters my shed again with malicious intentions then they may just find themselves loosing a finger or toe to a strategically placed animal trap. I suggest to my neighbors to be vigilant in preventing these crimes to continue. It’s obvious no one else will.
After my toolshed was broken into, I installed some solar motion lites and I make sure I leave porch lite on… make sure to lock car and stop leaving valuables in plain view.
Just curious, would setting an animal trap be legal?
Interesting notion Jim. You’d have to post a “no trespassing” sign and file a no trespassing warrant at the police station.Still, I wonder if a strategically placed bear trap (you’d need something that big to make it work) sprung on the ankle of a robber could be construed as assault even with those posted warnings and obvious violation of your property rights. Hmm…
“Bear trap? I had know idea there was a bear trap in my shed! I have no idea how that got there. Haven’t been in that shed for months.”
My neighbors shed on 25th was broken in to around the same time. (november).
