oops didn’t see #1 at the time. sorry for the double post.
I see someone in there every now and then, rummaging around, possibly fixing it up. At one point I heard that it was going to be a computer repair shop, but that was at least 3 or 4 years ago.
My inquiry to CHPN lead to this post (THANKS!).
I’ve been able to gather some things from the parcel mapper as well. Including that principal address that “spacecat” lists above, which is a single family home on the Southside. It seems that address also belongs to something called AVL Rentals AND something called Set Free Painting. Both had phone numbers listed, but only the second worked. What sounded like a fairly elderly woman picked up and she said the number did not belong to a business.
Bland Kerrick LLC owns what looks like 6 other properties in east Richmond, acquiring one home fairly recently. But other than the PO Box listed in the parcel mapper, I don’t see much in the way of contact information listed for this firm.
Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about the current owner and/or their plans for the space. I’m in the phase-1 stages of developing a start-up and I’m scouting potential spaces. Again, thanks for the help!
this building and the grand old bank building (next door) are diamonds in the rough. every time i walk by that corner I dream about what could be there.
402 used to have some pretty awesome “your hero” mural paintings on it–but those got painted over. last time i saw the door of 402 open, there was lots of tools, tables and hard to define mechanical junk.
In addition to that mentioned above, Google search reveal the following:
Registered Agent:
Anne D Mcdougall
629 C N Washington Highway
Ashland, VA 23005
CapitalGal, I loved that “Hero” sign/mural! there was a phone number, and a picture of a sandwich, right?
this link lists the po box number as being tied to leo anthony loflin, a relative of the last registered owner on the parcel mapper, valerie m loflin, who passed away in 2011:
http://www.trademarks411.com/marks/76579560-wasatch-mountain-springs
which also led to a phone number for leo a. loflin 804-226-2250
contact info for anne mcdougal, the registered agent of the llc: http://www.freshlaw.com/our-attorneys.htm#mcdougall
the building is being built out to an steak house and the owner name is leo
Someone please buy the bank and turn it into fine dining.
Gotta say, you all are an impressive community! Thanks for all of the insights.
the murals still exist! as far as i know, someone saved them and has them safely stored. i can’t say who, though. also, the bank is a church, right? i want someone to buy your house and turn it into fine dining.
so, JNB, did you manage to make contact with any of the relevant people associated with the building? what kind of startup are you planning?
@spacecat. I got in touch with Anne McDougall, she of course can’t release any contact information without the consent of the principals of Bland Kerrick LLC, but says she’ll make an attempt. But sounds like the owner has plans given the intel Dre provided. In either case, I sent letters to the P.O. Box and the physical address for Bland Kerrick.
Working on a small brewing operation (I don’t say brewery, because I’m planning something pretty different from the industry norm). You can check out http://batchery.org for more info.
Cheers!
Beer. Yum. Have you looked into Fulton Hill? There are a few commercial buildings available up here in the ‘commerical triangle’, though more retail-style spaces. The chinese restaurant, Sing Hing, on Government and Carlisle is for sale for $50,000. Cheap! Are you leasing or buying? There’s a great warehouse facility on Government Rd., sort of across from the dog park. Last I checked, they wanted over a million $ for it, though. Good luck with your venture.
I am currently working on a article concerning this block. As for this building it seems to have been built in 1934. Was a confectioner’s shop owned by Roland Lee Hord. Then around 1945 turned into a restaurant called the Marshall Inn until 1951. After that it was turned into a Cleaners for the African-American community named Admiral Cleaners then Dumont Cleaners. This was at least into the 1960s when it was closed and later becoming other short term businesses. The old Bank Building on the corner it butts up against was built in 1922 and on the other side was the Patrick Henry Theatre built in 1933, closed in 1952, sold in 1956 and demolished between 1964-1968 (still seeking exact date but part was torn down in 1964).
