CAR application for 418 North 25th Street
02/19/2013 6:50 PM by John M
The most notable project on the agenda for the 2/26 CAR meeting is the development at the East End Theater. ATTACHED IS THE CAR APPLICATION for the project. (PDF)
I see 24 new Apartments with no parking, that worked so well for Marshall St. from 18th to 21st.
I was hoping for something other than residential. We need more businesses. Gym? Movie Theater? Restaurant? I’ll take any revamp as well but sure do wish it was a better one.
A decent gym would be great! Good suggestion!
I’m glad to see progress on this project and I am eager for the renovation to begin. Let’s get a smaller scale food store in that space.
Great, I think. More residence, less parking, more public transit. The retail will follow.
I do wish that the addition came up and met the street
Having been involved in a group that looked into taking over an old theater in another city, I can tell you that the only way you’ll ever see an old theater like this become a theater again is if a Bowtie or Regal is running the show. The theater we looked at was in better shape than The Byrd and required little immediate structural attention, but the cost just to modernize the projection and audio alone was prohibitive.
I want something classy like the KINGS RETREAT or Club Rouge North
@10 – I second that! Just what our neighborhood needs.
Or we could see if Have a Bad Day Cafe could move into this? Shootings have been too low recently…
Rollo’s made an excellent point–there is no mention of any sort of parking.
Admitting my ignorance here, but hoping to learn, what happens to this application? Is there any opportunity for public comment?
I believe at the community meeting a few weeks ago it was mentioned that a lot across the street (423 N 25th?) will be paved and serve as parking, although there will not be a spot for every unit.
Jess #12, you can comment at the CAR meeting. The agenda states “***Please Note***
Public comment on cases brought before the CAR will be heard after the applicant’s explanatory remarks of the case and before CAR deliberation. Applicants and individuals wishing to comment on specific aspects of a given case are asked to briefly address issues related to the application.” Click on the word “agenda” in the above headline.
