The Roosevelt’s Gregory named as James Beard Award nominee

The James Beard Foundation has announced the 2013 restaurant and chef semifinalists for the 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards (the “Oscars” of the food world, for those unfamiliar). The semifinalists were selected by a Restaurant and Chef Committee from over 44,000 online entries in 20 categories.
The Roosevelt’s chef Lee Gregory has been named a James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic. The only nominee from the Richmond region, this is Gregory’s first appearance on the list. He is one of 20 nominees in the region that stretches from New Jersey to Virginia, and one of four from Virginia.
Dale Reitzer of Acacia was Richmond’s only nominee last year.
What a great honor, bestowed upon one of our very own! Thank you Lee Gregory for bringing your food to the Hill. You were great at Six-Burners, but you have really turned it up a notch (or two) at The Roosevelt!
But Lee, please do not rest on your laurels…there’s a kid name Caleb, and he’s coming for your crown! : )~
Good for the area & I certainly have no beef with the food at the Roosevelt, which was not brilliant but OK the few times I’ve been there. Still, I’ll not be going there anymore after some unpleasant experiences with the service, most recently when my wife & I went there for brunch (early & it wasn’t very busy) – and when we still hadn’t received our food after one hour, while everybody else, including people who arrived well after us, had received theirs, we asked what was going on twice – only to get rather rude replies.
If you hadn’t already I would call or email the manager/owner before you write them off forever. i wouldn’t let what could be one bad employee ruin a business for me, the people running it need to know about that kind of stuff.

I would have to agree with Bret. If you don’t get decent service ask for the manager (or owner) and voice your complaint. My past experiences with Kendra and been very good and she’s eager to please her customers. It’s important to give the establishment an opportunity to fix the problem…
Martin, call Kendra and let her know what happened. If you remember the name of your wait staff, all the better. Then give her the opportunity to make it right.
My husband and I recently went to a (different) restaurant with another couple. We had raved about this place to them, only to have a two hour wait for cold food. I called the manager of the restaurant and relayed the events of the evening. She sent both my husband & I and the other couple two very generous gift certificates to come back. That’s good business sense.
Hopefully the Roosevelt will get the chance to make things right with you!
