Scott Phillips’ 9 & 3 static series this Friday at Schindler

9 & 3 static series, paintings by Scott Phillips will open with a reception, Friday, March 8th, 7 to 9pm at the Eric Schindler Gallery. Exhibition runs through April 5, 2013.

Statement from the artist:

I usually try to mix narratives with abstract approaches. As in I’ll start with a vivid imagery based piece and then go about erasing most of the image’s essence with multiple washes and endless layers of thin paint. This method blurs most definition but lets just enough reality shine through as to attempt a rhythm between two warring parties. I guess I just like it when the strange takes over.

I work mostly with acrylics but have recently added more and more flourishes of oil and watercolor. These additions have become integral as I try to push my abilities in reference to contrast and light.
