Wow! That’s a great price for such a large buffet!
Has anyone in our neighborhood actually eaten here? If so, could you please share your experience? I want to hear some good reviews before I spend time and money.
My neighbor learned that the food is cooked off-site, in a nearby church kitchen, and brought to the business for serving. Another neighbor said they waited a very, very long time for a simple sandwich.
We need a real restaurant–one where the food is cooked fresh, on premises. Do church kitchens go through the same (health dept) oversight as commercial kitchens?
@ Capitol girl we do cook 97% of our food on-site fresh daily, due to the preparation of our staff we are able to meet the demands of our Menu with the equipment that we have provided for us to use, being that our food is cooked fresh and not processed providing good quality ingredients to assure our customers satisfaction it may take 15-20 min. per order but “thank you” for stressing your concern on our business and openly stating your opinion so we can further tweak any of our kitchen concerns….
My experience there is the food is quite good but the kitchen is on the slow side. I got the sense that not only is everything cooked basically to order…everything is also prepped to order. I had the same experience with this at OMG. That’s great when you are cooking at home…less so in a commercial environment. If you have the time to wait and don’t mind if your party’s food may not all come out at the same time, you will get some good quality food made with a lot of care at Johnson’s. While I wish the kitchen were speedier and a little more coordinated in pushing out food, it would only be worth it if it could be done without compromising the quality of the food itself. Until then, just know that this isn’t the place to go if you are in a rush.
Now, to Capital Gal’s issue of “we need a real restaurant.” Umm…look around. We HAVE real restaurants. Up the street about two blocks from Johnson’s is the Roosevelt where the chef was a semi-finalist for a freakin’ Beard Award–the Oscars for food. Alamo is a block or two the other way. Sub-Rosa is across the street from the Roosevelt baking fresh as is WPA. Dutch & Company, Anthony’s, Proper Pie and Hill Cafe are all turning out excellent, fresh food within less than a half mile from Johnson’s. We have a lot of “real restaurants” and most are within walking distance of Johnson’s. And his restaurant is real too. While even more dining would be welcome, we have a pretty good start in Church Hill right now.
We enjoyed our visit to Johnson’s. The vegetarian options were great. It can be tough to make vegetarian food have the same “soul” as the dishes with meat but I thought they pulled it off.
@Johnson’s –can you tell me what your Sunday buffet hours are? I won’t be coming on Easter, but a friend and I have plans to check you out the following Sunday!!
Food is great at Johnson’s .
Does anyone know if Johnson’s ABC License was granted?
