Family Super Market condemned AND closed for remodeling
04/11/2013 4:59 PM by John M
The classic Family Super Market at the corner of Jefferson and 24th was condemned earlier today. Signs went up after indicating that the business was also closed for remodeling.
fairly certain it’s not kosher to post a ‘closed for renovations’ sign over a condemned sticker.
Oh shoot! I wonder what happened? They are right around the block from me and the guys who run it are really nice. I know I am not the only ‘Church Hillian’ who goes there. Hope they get it together and reopen soon.
Where will we ever go for shrimp now?
For what it’s worth, they had a pretty decent beer selection.
No – they had an AMAZING beer selection! My husband and I are devastated.
Hamburger!
please bring back good beer… i’m thirsty
Yes, they had good beer and yes, they were nice. But I always had issues with the fact that patrons from the store would litter and loiter in the lot (that is now clear cut, apparently) adjacent to the building. Maybe a remodel and the clearing of the lot next door will help spruce things up and improve the store’s presence in the community.
Agreed: they had good beer. They also had an open sewer in the basement; structural issues that compromised the safety of every customer and employee; and a rat infestation. Moreover: drug dogs were brought in just before the place was shut down…
The food was all past its expiration date at this store, they never cleaned up their trash, and they consented to known drug dealers loitering on premises. The prior store operator was nice an made an effort to curb the typical corner store blight. The current store operators, however, actively resisted all neighbor requests to clean up their own trash and to discourage illegal activity – in fact, they were openly hostile to friendly requests to meet minimum standards. As anonymous said, they had great beer… but the bottles were covered in rat droppings.
I wonder if the comments about them being nice are about the prior operator, who was very nice.
