Hoops for Health 3-on-3 basketball tournament
Our “Hoops For Health” event will include a free 3-on-3 Double Elimination Basketball tournament for 6-8th grade boys and girls, and a Healthy Living Festival that focuses on developing healthy lifestyles.
The event encourages adopting a life-long fitness activity, while obtaining the tools to lead healthier lives.
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, located in the East End communities of Richmond and Henrico, will be hosting a “Hoops for Health” event on Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
DescriptionRegistration for the youth teams participating in the Hoops for Health 3-on-3 tournament is free, as is access to the Healthy Living Festival. The event will be held at the Boys & Girls Club, 3701 “R” Street in Richmond and the deadline for team registration for the tournament is April 15. To register a team for the tournament, or to get more information, please call 804-222-3122.
General informationThe Hoops for Health tournament will include 64 teams (32 boys and 32 girl’s teams) with 250 youth participating from around the metro Richmond area. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club’s health collaborator, the VCU School of Nursing, is coordinating the Healthy Living Festival that will include dozens of information booths, fun activities and healthy snacks offered by community health partners. The event encourages adopting a life-long fitness activity, while obtaining the tools to lead healthier lives. The event will also provide an opportunity for the public to visit the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, which has served the East End communities for more than 50 years.
Spots are still available. This is shaping up to be an excellent event, and there are new things in the works.

Just wanted to let everyone know we have extended the deadline to allow more teams to take part in this FREE tournament. We have another special guest in the works, and the Healthy Living Festival is looking to be very fun and engaging.
If you know any Middle school students, please consider helping them form a team (be their “coach” and help get their form faxed/e-mailed.
Also, everyone is invited to come watch, check out the festival, and enjoy a nice overall event.
The Club has been giving back to the community with events like these for decades, and coming out is a great way to show your support for this great organization.
There are only a few team slots left. However, everyone in the community is invited to not just enjoy watching the tournament, but enjoyed the outdoor festival and live music throughout the day. It looks to be a beautiful day for it.

Vendors are currently setting up, teams are arriving, and the food is being cooked for the first annual “Hoops for Health” Tournament and Healthy Living Festival. Help support all the Club does by coming out with your family and friends, watch some exciting games, listen to some live entertainment, and more. It will be a BEAUTIFUL day for it.
