Do you know a dog named Lila?
06/19/2013 5:57 PM by John M
Looking for the owner of a small-med black dog named Lila. Owner is in 20’s to 30’s, dark hair. Had ponytail and exercise clothes on this morning.
I was bitten as I was gardening in my front yard this morning, across from Libbie Park around 9:30 am. They were walking by, I had my back to them, the dog lunged over and bit me. I was upset and did not think to ask about shots. The owner was upset and said her dog has never done that before. I need to know that the dog is up to date on shots. Help please.

Whether or not the dog has had shots or not is, to a first approximation, irrelevant to human health. You are not at risk for diseases such as canine distemper, canine parvovirus, kennel cough, etc. which are the target of veterinary vaccines. And the probability of rabies in a well cared for domestic animal is so vanishingly small that it approximates zero… There were only three reported cases of rabies in dogs in the whole state in 2012, and none in Richmond city for many years. I am not a physician, and this is not medical advice. Consult a physician for proper treatment of your wound if you are at all concerned.
