June 2013 vacant building registry
06/25/2013 10:15 AM by John M
The city’s Vacant Building Registry list for June 2013 (PDF) lists 2,306 properties. An earlier post with the January data included just under 1,400 properties.
To create the map below, the source PDF has been converted first to a spreadsheet and then to a Google fusion table.
As I’ve pressed another organization to do, we need to submit a FOIA request to the City for tax delinquency data on every property in the East End over a certain time frame. I’d say two or five years. Those properties need to be moved to tax sale without delay or excuse.
would love to learn why my house is on the list of vacancies when we live in it and have been doing so since we purchased it a few months ago…
#2, I have the same issue. I was on the January list although I was occupying the house and asked that they remove the property from the list. I was told they would, but it appears I am still on this list too. I have lived in the house continuously for a year. I don’t get it.
I believe this list is created from a utility roll…if one or more utilities is not active- (gas, water, electric), then the property could be listed as vacant…some of the data may be stale as well.
What block wins the award for most vacant properties?
Well, going by the map – and with the caveats mentioned above – it must be the block between Q and R on 31st Street, something supported by StreetView (though that image is a couple of years old).
