Arrest made in attempted abduction in Fulton
07/19/2013 5:21 PM by John M
The Richmond Police Department has arrested and charged a man with stalking after investigating the attempted abduction of a young girl in Fulton earlier this week.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, a 10-year-old girl walking in the 1100 block of Apperson Street to the Powhatan Community pool reported that a man in a vehicle attempted to persuade her to enter his vehicle.
Within 24 hours of the incident, detectives identified a person of interest. After consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, detectives have charged Shahriar Bakhtiarizadeh, 52, of Chesterfield, with one count of misdemeanor stalking.
Detectives would like to thank the community for their help and information in this case.
Gah–this guy lives in my old neighborhood, literally across the street. Moral of the story–the pervs live in the suburbs, not the cities.
@#2. Trish, the pervs are EVERYWHERE. There are 98 registered sex offenders in zipcode 23231 alone. 653 if you include zipcodes adjacent to 23231. And those are the ones we know about.
@3 – how many in 23223 (the zip code that is most relevant for most of this community)?
@2…get a grip on it lady!
Laura- I have a new theory. You play a one-person game to see how you can turn the commentary on any topic negative as quickly as possible. Is that it? I’d say you are winning.
@6…I’m so sorry dearie that you don’t like my comments. I say…who cares? There are some comments just too stupid to ignore: “Moral of the story–the pervs live in the suburbs, not the cities”.
Dearie, I have a suggestion for you…don’t read my comments…you have a choice in the matter. Unless, of course, you’ve joined the braintrust with Patricia.
@#4 The ‘misdemeanor stalking’ took place in in Fulton which is 23231. 23223 has 143 registered offenders. You can see faces and addresses here:

Here are crime stats for the last dozen or so years. No abduction numbers, but reported rapes are listed.

Even though crime rates are falling recently in Richmond, it’s still a dangerous city compared to much of Virginia and national averages as well. Violent crime in general and ‘pervs’ are much more concentrated in urban areas than the burbs.
A couple of months ago someone drove up my street in Fulton and fired off three shots in the early evening. I, nor any of my neighbors saw anything, but we found the shell casings in the street. The cop who came to take the ‘report’ laughed, shrugged and said “Life in the big city…”
