November/December newsletter from the Church Hill Association
11/08/2013 2:45 AM by John M
The November/December issue of the Church Hill Association newsletter (PDF) has been distributed around the neighborhood and is now available online.
Includes: a letter from Interim CHA President John Johnson, the 2014 Church Hill Association Board Slate, photos and words from Hogtober 2013, info about the CHA Membership Party at the 2300 Club and the 2013 Holiday House Tour, updates from Bellevue and Chimborazo schools, Board Meeting minutes, and a great write-up by Eric Huffstutler on The Old Movie Houses of Church Hill
The next CHA membership meeting is set for Tuesday November 19th.
Thanks John for posting the link and the kudos about my article J It is actually the second installment of a monthly “historical” article to be a part of the Newsletter (last month featured the Wills Grocery Store at 401 N 27th).
Unfortunately photographs from the usual museum and archival sources for the movie theatres were very limited and they too admit that historic resources North of Broad are very scarce. This eventually needs to be remedied possibly with a book?
I haven’t yet joined CHA, but I suppose I will before the next meeting. I noticed this blurb in the newsletter:
“Rejoining members: Currently Roberts Rules suggest they must pay a rejoining fee of $25, and whether they have ability to vote immediately or have to wait until next meeting.”
What’s the reason for this idea? Regardless of when someone joins CHA, shouldn’t their vote be counted immediately? Is this a way to limit a flux of new votes based on potential hot-topic issues? Just wondering…
Yes, rejoining members can vote after paying dues but new member cannnot vote right away. This rule came about five years ago when a developer, gave out money to people, (right on the street, in front of St. John’s Church), for memberships just before a critical CHA voting meeting. To avoid such a buying of memberships and votes, CHA instituted this rule. The delay gives the organization time to investigate such practices before the next CHA voting meeting. Not always what CHA does isn’t clear or obvious to those that don’t know the history or backgrounds of circumstances.
However, asking questions like posting 2 above, instead of degrading the organization, gives opportunty to give such information out to all, so that issues and rational are better understood.
