Union Market aiming for January
Richmond BizSense has a great look at the eagerly anticipated Union Market:
Gillian Field, Hunter Robertson and Shawn Tunstall will open Union Market at 2306 Jefferson Ave. They signed a three-year lease for the 2,200-square-foot space and plan to open in January.
On one side of the store, Union Market will sell produce and dry goods. A dining area and bar will occupy the other side. The dining area will be able to seat about 30 people, including eight at the bar. Union Market will have six taps for hard cider, beer and kombucha. Growler fills and wine by the glass will be available, as well as sandwiches, salads, soups and charcuterie.
The trio have applied for an amendment to the Special Use Permit on the property to authorize off-premise sale of beer and wine.

LOVE THIS!!!!
I love the idea of bringing more corner stores to our great neighborhood.
Any thoughts on how the proposed grocery store via Shockoe plan down the street will impact this great project?
@JSydnor – how about not at all? The people who really need affordable groceries from Kroger are not the typical customer profile for charcuterie and growlers. The total lack of conversation on the econcomic justice inexpensive basic groceries would bring to the East End food desert is a real dark mark against the non-profit world’s comments on the Bottom proposal.
Just wondering if anybody knew why the previous restaurant couldn’t get their alcohol license and this new one can?
The previous owner had ABC violations at an earlier establishment, I heard.
this is exactly what i have been wanting in church hill – couldn’t be more excited!
Nice! Craft-beer closet?!?
So excited about this! I’ve never seen or heard of Kambucha on draft before. Should be interesting.
