Cars broken into at Chimborazo Park
11/21/2013 9:22 AM by John M
There is a report that cars were broken into yesterday at the Church Hill Dog Park in Chimborazo Park:
so lately there have been creepy people hanging out at the park, people without dogs, people doing it in the middle of afternoon, and I have been concerned but this afternoon at about 2:30 pm someone went through an unlocked vehicle and then smashed the window and stole a purse of a locked vehicle. Please be aware out there.
We also had a car broken into and dry cleaning stolen – on the broad st side of Chimborazo.
If you see any questionable activity, call the police either at 911 or at their non emergency number of 646-5100. They track complaints and that helps them allocate resources.
There was a guy in a truck down there Tuesday around 11am just sitting in his car hanging out next to my car (dog park parking area, he didn’t have a dog with him, was just hanging out). I was the only person down there. My dogs and I both made it obvious that we were aware of his presence and he left after a little while.
They broke into my truck 3 weeks ago-stole change out of cup holder, umbrella, phone charger and gps out of glove box. They left the door open on driver’s side…This is sad.
My buddy at 29th and Clay was broken into yesterday as well
When is there not sketchy people there? They just sit in their car and stare at everyone who walks by.
If you see someone sketchy, call the police. Make sure when you set out that you have your cell phone and it is fully charged. Lt. Minton put his cell phone and office phone out there on another post – Lt. Daniel Minton, “Lt Dan”
1st Precinct Sector 111 – 2501 Q. Street. Plug the following two numbers into your cell phone.
240-9158 (B) – Dan’s cell number
646-0574 (O
Security motto where I work, prominently displayed, is “See something, say something.’ I seem to recall some vendor in Times Square in NYC used that saying when he called in a potential bomber in a van. See something, say something – to 911, AND to Lt. Dan. This applies to the dog park and anyone walking around up here right now since we have so many issues at the moment.
Final thought – does the dog park have a space for a security camera? Seems the community garden has one, why not the dog park? I don’t think they cost much but someone needs to maintain it and make sure it’s securely mounted so it won’t get stolen. Maybe a way to put it up on/in the parkhouse, or does that not have view of the area?
Please excuse typos and length, I had dental surgery today and am still groggy. Thanks.
Yesterday, I witnessed a middle-aged black male walking around the Round House at Chimborazo and checking the fences that secure the doors to the basement at the rear of the building. Of course, he had no dog with him and when he spotted me approaching with my dog he turned away from the building and just stated over the hill to the lower dog park. It appeared that his intention was not to just hang out behind the Round House and stare down the hill.
I’m looking forward to the day when one of these guys picks the wrong house to mess with and winds up with a chest full of lead. That will send them a nice strong message!
#6, I agree. There are ALWAYS people just parked up there and most of the time it sketches me out. I tend to just avoid the cars. I don’t understand the need to just go sit in a public park and sip on your beverage in a paper bag or whatever they do. HOWEVER, you can’t make parking and hanging out in/around your car in a public park illegal. Witness the Fulton Bottom/Gillies Creek watering hole.
#7, it is not realistic nor helpful to call the police any time you see someone you deem as sketchy. My version of sketch and someone else’s version of sketch may be different. The most police can do is patrol.
If someone wants to break into a car, they’ll do it quickly when no one is looking.
Laura,
There are already too many “chests full of lead” around here.
Pretty disgusting comment Laura. If u r the ‘Laura’ that is rumored to beat squatters w/terminal cancer w/broomsticks for taking shelter in empty, abandoned houses, u should be ashamed of your behavior. For your sake i hope u never end up in a desperate situation like the people you so harshly judge.
@12 Sorry to disappoint you Mary Anne. I have nothing to do with empty or abandoned houses or squatters with cancer. And, I don’t own a broomstick –at least not without the broom attached.
Now, as far as the “people you (I) so harshly judge”, I sure hope you’re joking, Are you saying that people who are breaking into others’ homes and burglarizing their properties is something I or anyone should excuse or ignore? If so, you’re a complete idiot! It’s people like you you are a huge part of the problem for always making excuses for bad behavior–you enable people to live a life without accountability. And, that’s exactly why they find themselves in the position they’re in. Keep the excuses coming and see if your bleeding heart changes once you become a victim. You’re a sad sack.
Paul, agreed.
Laura,
I agree with your statement.. You have a right to protect YOUR property and YOURSELF or another if you’re in imminent danger.
John, this one is getting pretty ugly.
