Recognize these pants?

These new clothes were found in the bushes in the alley between Grace and Franklin off of 25th Street: “Maybe from one of the stolen packages???”
TAGGED: crime
Stolen packages? Are we dealing with that shit again?
I had a package stolen off my porch on 26th St two weeks ago – called the police non-emergency number to report it and was told they don’t keep records of stolen packages. I assumed that would be useful data for the police? Knowing if there is an increase in these kinds of thefts?
Unfortunately the holiday season means people follow trucks and steal packages. This is not a Church Hill only problem but it absolutely happens up here. Since delivery people don’t even try to see if anyone is home, we started getting all deliveries to my office.
@ Alex(et all)-
Stolen packages are an issue which repeats EVERY holiday season; check w/Lt. Dan Milton @ 1st Precinct for confirmation: Daniel.Minton@richmondgov.com
***TO MY NEIGHBORS ON THE HILL***
If you see someone acting suspiciously &/or taking packages,
PLEASE call RPD “Non Emergency” @ (804) 646-5100 or just 911. The Bad Guys out there have a VERY effective “Package Tracking System”, and will be happy to snatch up all of your Amazon & etc. goodies!
We’ve had this happen to us so we got smart and started sending packages to my husband’s office. Also, we sometimes send it to our stay at home neighbor who enjoys getting mail. Haven’t had anything taken since! Solution: be better neighbors.
Yes, get to know your neighbors so they can watch out for packages or send them to your work address.
But why is 1st Precinct telling people to call RPD while when you do they act like it’s not their problem? Conflicting vibes here.
@Melissa:
“Be better neighbors” is dead on correct.
Thank you *so much* for saying it.
Has anyone considered the possibility that these came off one of the sophisticated patrons of Still Sexy Saturdayz?
Alex, not with tags still hanging from them unless the person is related to Minnie Pearl? Stolen from a store? Stolen off a porch and took any cards (cash) that may have also been packed discarding the clothes? Got to be crackheads.
@Eric Exactly, you would think they’d allow you to report a theft regardless of the type of theft? RPD told me I had to report it to the Postal Inspector – but it was a UPS package. The vibe I got was they didn’t want to know about it.
Good morning all,
We’re sorry you’ve been told incorrectly, but we very much take reports of package thefts, as such crime typically rises this time of year with the holidays.
We aggressively investigate to find the offenders, but also encourage citizens to have packages delivered to their work or require a signature before delivery.
We are also looking into the communication breakdown on our end. We encourage anyone who has had packages taken or discovered packages or items like the ones pictured above to please give us a call to report them. Our non-emergency number is 646-5100 and Lt. Dan Minton’s direct number is 646-0574
~Dionne Waugh, Richmond Police Spokeswoman
When my package theft occurred a few years ago, RPD sent out a detective to see if he could dust for prints. Packages with the plastic lining sometimes hold prints.
**THANKS AGAIN TO Ms. Waugh, Lt. Dan and *ALL* the 1st Precinct Officers***
Let us not forget what these, or any Officer, do for us all year round.
Happy Holi-daze & “Eyes Up” Neighbors!!
Thank you Dionne!
Hey Neighbors. I foiled an attempted package theft yesterday afternoon. I was sitting in my car programming my GPS when a burgundy colored small SUV pulled up to my neighbor’s house. A young black male got out of the passengers door, walked up on my neighbor’s porch, picked up their package, and started to walk off of their porch. I got out of my car and confronted him from across the street. He put the package back and started knocking on my neighbor’s door. The older black woman driving the SUV rolled down her window and said they were looking for somebody that lived in the house. (clever, no?) I said bullshit, you’re stealing packages off of people’s porches and asked them to wait while I called the cops to sort the whole situation out. Needless to say, they drove off.
I was able to get a partial plate # and vehicle description for the police. Hopefully, they will follow up and get these brazen, disrespectful, common f’ckin’ thieves off the street.
Ho ho ho.
