Recent changes at CHPN
CHPN launched in August 2004. Since then we’ve put up over 6,500 posts and gotten more than 60,000 comments. The community has created a companion flickr group with right at 6,000 photos of the area.
After being a model for the growth of community blogs across Richmond, CHPN was part of the launch RVA News network of sites in 2008. We’ve contributed to that site for the past 5 years, and they have handled the advertising for us.
While this has been a great partnership, starting in January CHPN will no longer be a part of the network, and will again be operating independently.
What’s this mean going forward? Not much, really… The advertising will now be handled in house. A slight redesign because CHPN doesn’t have to match the other network sites any longer (at least the 5th facelift the site has gotten…).
If you’re not sweating the details, you’d likely not notice the switch. It feels like it needed an explanation, though.
As always, thanks for your support and participation, and keep sending in stuff that we need to know about.

As always, thanks for all your work on this. It’s a hugely valuable resource.
Totally agree with PTG @1, thanks John for all your work on this! It is truly a community resource, and please know that you are appreciated!
Does this mean that CHPN will no longer be on the RVAnews community list?
That’s up to them. They’re welcome to include the posts if they’d like to.
Thanks John.
We *WHOLEHEARTEDLY* appreciate EVERYTHING YOU DO!!
Is this because you’re looking to take CHPN public? If Twitter’s worth $40 billion these days, surely you’ll be a multimillionaire right? 😉
In all seriousness, thanks for all your hard work here.
Smart move John. Plus, they HAVE to include CHPN posts. All of Richmond’s reporters get their best stories from here! 🙂
Blessing in disguise.
