Sample local, organic produce Friday and Saturday
During this season of setting New Year’s resolutions, the Get Fresh! Initiative is encouraging Richmond residents to pledge to Get Fresh! by consuming more fruits and vegetables in 2014.
On Friday, January 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and Saturday, January 4th from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, customers at Clay Street Market (501 North 30th Street) and Quick Mart (1621 Williamsburg Road) can sample local, organic produce grown by Tricycle Gardens and take the pledge to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables their families prepare and eat.
Throughout the year they’ll receive information and ideas on how to integrate more fruits and vegetables into their diet.
Claire Sadeghzadeh, Tricycle Gardens’ Program Coordinator said, “Only 5 percent of Americans younger than 50 eat the daily-recommended vegetables. We hope all of Richmond pledges together to eat more delicious fruits and vegetables to improve the health of our families and communities.”
The Get Fresh! Initiative is a public-private partnership working to increasing community access to fresh, organic produce in corner stores located urban food deserts and providing educational outreach opportunities for families to taste, cook and explore healthy produce and foods.

Wish I could make it to this! Great idea!
