Fairfield and Creighton have 3rd highest poverty in Virginia

The New York Times’ “Mapping Poverty in America” lets you look at poverty data for cities/counties and individual census tracts.
The census tract which includes Fairfield Court and Creighton Court has the highest percentage of residents city-wide living in poverty at 69.6%. This is 3rd highest in the state after tract 11400 in Hampton (76.7%) and tract 4200 in Portsmouth (70.5%).
Gilpin Court, Mosby Court, and Whitcomb Court are all close behind at 66.7%, 67.2%, and 66%.
The poverty threshold for 2012 is defined as an income of $23,283 for a family of four, or $11,945 for an individual under 65.
And people are arguing if a coffee shop should sell booze.
A high rate of poverty in housing projects – who would have thought??????
I know right- No booze at the coffee shop, buts its okay at every hole-in-the-wall-corner convenience store along 25th and nine mile rd? Makes no since why they voted it down. I guess they are scared the coffee shop crowd will get to rowdy?
Please, it’s well over a mile from Buzzy’s to Fairfield. It makes total sense that the neighbors there are allowed to have their own concerns.
