The greatly-anticipated Union Market has set their grand opening for this Saturday, January 25. Keep your eyes out for the OPEN sign, they’ll be running intermittent soft opening hours this week leading up.

I am not into rustic looks being more formal and have antiques but I must say I like those tables.
The whole fit and finish is great, those tables look even better in person.
Welcoming, comfortable, and a really tasty sandwich with fresh greens!
Had an impromptu gathering there of friends & neighbors during the snowstorm last night. Food, beer, wine, atmosphere and ENTIRE experience was fantastic. Several of us will clearly be “regulars”..
It is exactly what the neighborhood needed, and will add a level of comfort and convenience of which we may even be unworthy…
This place is my new favorite
If you haven’t try the pimento cheese sandwich
Best place since sliced bread
We can’t wait to try this out!! With all the choices we have now, there will be no need to ever leave the Hill!
Went on Sunday. Very nice store. The people who own it seem very pleasant. I’m curious to see how it does–the product mix seemed pretty exclusive and there did not seem to be a lot of staples. Granted you can get a pint of Haagen-Dazs or a two liter soda anywhere, but a little more convenience would be great.
I had a delicious sandwich. Wish I could have had chips on the side instead of the salad offering, but that was probably for the best!
Just one request: a soda fountain for those of us who can’t enjoy alcohol with our meals.
This is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood as they continue to tweak the concept.
@BAF, an “exclusive product mix” is what you need to offer if you want to operate a for-profit business targeting the market demographics likely to produce the most regulars in that amount of space. I saw the same thing at Little House Green Grocer on the North Side and such a product mix is why they will stay in business. Making money on staples is a game of scale and there isn’t enough space for a big-box in that location.
Stopped for a sandwich & a pint last night. This place is awesome. I see lots of my $$ going there in the coming years. Great beer selection (on draught & to go), and the pimento cheese & proscuitto/fig sandwiches were amazing. Great addition to the neighborhood!
Bill 3 – you are right. Anyone who uses fig in any of its transformations has got to be really awesome.
All is can say is SOUP! Last night, they served up two of the most delicious soups on the planet. For folks who want a “soda fountain” they have 3 flavors of all-natural Koombacha (sic) on tap. Very tasty–just the right amount of fiz and no alcohol. FWIW, I really appreciated the side salad of mixed greens that came with the sandwiches–better than chips, IMO. Wine selection is awesome. We got Shawn to recommend a bottle for us the other night–it was perfect. The vibe is just right for our corner of the hood. Thank you Aaron, Brooke, Gillian, Hunter, Shawn and all their friends and family members for supporting them in this effort. Your neighbors are most grateful!
My husband and I dropped by last Sunday (when we drove by and saw the lights on) for what was actually a Friends & Family invite event, but we were greeted warmly at the door and invited in to look around. Clearly, we also needed to sample the draft list – which was delish. Gillian & Co. have done an excellent job bringing the place to life!
Thanks everyone for the feedback! You all have been so pleasant and so supportive… We really appreciate it! @BAF, I’m so sorry we didn’t communicate this to you while you were here, but we have a huge selection of sodas, iced tea, juices, coffee, etc. in the coolers on the market side and you are welcome to grab a drink out of a cooler or a bag of chips to enjoy with your meal. I hope you will come enjoy an ice cold soda next time you visit! Have a great day and stay warm!
I had an incredible sandwich there today. The place is awesome. And they have great beers on tap(Now I just need to find a place with lottery tickets…just kidding.) I will be back often. Everyone else get off the fence and go.

“Union Market is just one more reason why, when my lease is up, I’m packing up and moving to Church Hill. I like to go where the food is good, and Church Hill is on a roll. If you’re in the neighborhood, I certainly recommend you check out Union Market.”
