Wow – with all these new restaurants, shops, and services, I may never need to leave the Hill except to go on vacation!
This is great! Moved up here almost 8 months ago and still haven’t settled on a favorite place to get my hair cut. Would be nice to see simple cuts for men at a slightly lower rate, though. Nice site as well, but the owners might want to note that their zip code is wrong under location on the main page.
OK, I am going to ask what may seem one dumb and stupid question but for anyone who has lived in Church Hill North for any number of years, will know where I am coming from. Is this going to be a “ethnic only” salon?
I answered my own question looking at their website BUT come on now.
It is great you are coming to Church Hill but the price points are way out of line for the demographics here. These are major city downtown prices, not fringe area middle to lower middle class neighborhood prices. And didn’t see anything in the portfolio that The Hair Cuttery couldn’t do. No edgy high fashioned cuts associated with these prices. And like 33rd mentioned, no “men’s” haircut prices? Or simple haircut prices?
I go to the Byrd Barber Shop to get my hair cut. They take their time and even trim your eyebrows, do a head and neck massage with hot wet towels, and do a straight-razor neck shave on “everyone” all for $16. Worth the drive down Broad but we need something similar here in Church Hill.

A nice addition to the neighborhood but to date one of the best local hair-cut deals is the “Barber Shop” on 25th in the bright blue building across from First Precinct. Al, the owner with the long dreads, gives an excellent cut for men, women, black, white, young, old.
Eric – Nesbit, and I’d expect this business, cater mostly to women & to higher priced stylings/colorings/etc. From my experience (I’m not a woman, but I’ve been around a few & heard what they pay for their hair) the prices are in line with other salon’s of this caliber. They probably don’t want us guys popping in after doing chores in the yard, gym etc. looking for a quick, $10 trim. Not their demographic. I wish them well, though!

ann…do you know if the guy on 25th does all of the same old fashioned services as the Byrd that I go to does? Byrd also offers beard trims and face shaves too with straight razor. I want more than just a quick electric razor cut.
Eric, I really recommend Main Street Barber & Mercantile. Across from Sticky Rice, they’ve only been there less than a year. They cut with scissors, not an electric razor–old school style. Give a great cut. Men’s cut is $18, I think? Ask for Charlie Ilario.

They do straight razor and hot towels, too. My husband hadn’t been able to find a decent barber until he started going there. Byrd and Adams can be real iffy sometimes.
As a long time resident of Church Hill, I am thrilled to bring my business to this neighborhood. I will be adding $30 kid’s cut, and $35 men’s cut to the service menu. We will also offer $10 between cut clean ups, such as neck and bang trims, and loyalty points, to keep costs down for our regular guests.

@Eric, there is Razors of Richmond, which is where I have my haircut all the time. They can do everything a salon can do + give massages, colouring etc. and their prices are right in line with a salon of their calibre.
However, it is not a family place to get your hair cut for $16…the place is very nice. The service is great, and you come out always feeling like a new man. In addition, I am gay …wonder what they could do for a straight guy. 😀
Eric – you don’t know what you’re talking about on women’s hair styling prices. Those prices are very reasonable (perhaps even on the lower side) for a good salon. One thing I’ve explained to my guy friends who can’t believe the cost is that women only get their hair cut a few times a year – I would say generally between 2 – 6 depending on the length. So total cost evens out over the course of the year.
#11, Eric. Not sure what all Al offers. Got a hair cut there today for the usual $10. Stop by and ask. He’s a nice, welcoming guy. Let us know what he has to say.
Elizabeth is the best! I’ve been going to her for years at Nesbit. She’s received training in expert techniques from high fashion instructors in NYC, in addition to Nesbit’s apprenticeship program. She was one of their best and can accommodate any kind of cut. Plus she’s a resident of the Hill.
