Get Fresh! hosting food tasting, parent nutrition workshop
On Friday, March 14th, 4:00 – 6:00 PM, neighborhood residents will have an opportunity to taste recipes made from fresh produce and learn ways to spice up these dishes at in-store food tastings at the Clay Street Market (501 North 30th Street) and Quick Mart (1621 Williamsburg Road).
On March 26th, 1:30-3:00 PM, the Get Fresh! Initiative is conducting a parent nutrition workshop for parents of students at George Mason Elementary. The workshop will focus on strategies for maximizing families’ food budgets to include more fruits and vegetables, and highlighting the use of spices to add flavor without extra salt or fat. The parents will receive ingredients used during the workshop to practice cooking at home.
The Get Fresh! Initiative is part of the National Corner Store Initiative. Fresh produce is supplied in part by Tricycle Gardens, a nonprofit urban farm in the Manchester area of South Richmond. For more information about the Get Fresh! Initiative, go to tricyclegardens.org or call 804-231-7767.
