TAGGED: Chimborazo Park
Wow, this is fascinating! Any other details for explanation of the history of this article? For instance, I didn’t realize most parks had “Keep Off The Grass” signs and just for aesthetics (I guess I just take that for granted).
I thought this was hilarious! What a voice from the past:
“No keep off the grass signs, open air public playgrounds, free moving pictures. In this trinity Chimborazo ‘conquers and attains municipal knighthood as the park progressive'”. This fellow really could turn a phrase 🙂
Over the past several years Friends of Chimborazo Park has labored to keep Chimborazo Park moving forward and serving our neighborhood through several initiatives::
-Utilizing Goats to clear unwanted brush and growth
-Reintroducing an apple orchard to Church Hill (due later this spring)
-Partnering with the Tree Stewards to plant saplings throughout lower Chimborazo
-Partnering the Greater Richmond Rotary Clubs to landscape portions of upper Chimborazo through the introduction or replacement of 25 cherry trees, about 80 rose bushes, and countless daffodils, tulips, daylilies, and other flowers.
-Reintroducing moving pictures to the park by showing films such as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, GOONIES, CASABLANCA, etc.
All of these improvements have been accomplished through private funding and volunteer labor. We would like to thank those who have assisted us in the past and encourage more neighbors to get involved in the future. Currently, our biggest need is for funding for a series of classic family friendly movies we hope to show late spring through early fall. We are a nonprofit organization so your donations may be tax deductible. For further information, please contact John Drew Clay at Friendsofchimborazo@gmail.com.
