Police seeking info on Muck Man
03/29/2014 10:47 AM by John M
nbc12 has a piece on the rash of graffiti attributed to “Muck Man”:
Graffiti is on the rise in some Richmond neighborhoods, and police think one tagger may be responsible. Now, they need your help in figuring out who he is and getting him off the streets.
The tag spotted frequently around the city is a caricature and the words “Muck Man” or just “Muck.”
To people living in Richmond’s Union Hill neighborhood, it’s an invasion of personal space.
“It’s a violation,” Elaine Odell said. “It feels very physical, very personal. It’s like being slapped in the face.”
muck hate nature
Buy some stuff to scrub it off and let it go. Unless this person is coming into your house, it is NOT a “violation.” I say this with a tag on our side of the building. Like dogs peeing but with spray paint, that’s how I look at it.
@2…You couldn’t be more wrong. This is absolutely a violation which someone will hopefully be arrested and fined for carrying out. Nobody has any right to step foot on another’s property and vandalize their building or property! Get real woman! Your comment is so absurd it makes my head hurt. Some of this stuff can’t simply be washed off of vintage brick…it destroys value. This activity is irresponsible and destructive and nobody should have to spend a dime or ounce of energy remediating anything these careless criminals do. I sure hope you were joking because that was one stupid comment.
Oh, please get these little punks. I despise these little graffiti shits (especially after some tagged my sons daycare – a daycare!! what kind of losers tag a day care?!?!). I think there may be some useful social commentary about where you see graffiti and why the taggers chose their locations, but I just don’t care enough about why they do what they do and would like to see them punished for their destruction if property.
#2–if I wanted a tag on my building, I would have tagged it myself or invited someone to do it. It’s great you’re OK being tagged and I guess that means I should be OK that the tag on your building (the one on 25th and Leigh?) is lowering nearby property values, punishing your neighbors and adding to blight. Unbelievable.
We let this go and it just lets the criminals know the neighborhood doesn’t care abouth chaos and blight. It’s an “open for business” sign for other social ills. Richmond PD fortunately appears to agree with my point of view and not #2’s, and we need to be very appreciative of their efforts to find this guy.
Oh, and not only is what he’s doing wrong, his graffiti sucks. He’s not even a half-decent street artist. Not exactly the next Banksy. Let’s retire him quickly.
The City pays for a lot of the graffiti removal. In the end, it’s our tax dollars spent on removing that crap which could be put to better use.
#2-Are you high? You’re really going to compare a dog pissing to the actions of a human?
I am stunned that anyone would feel that tagging is ok. While it isn’t the same as your home being robbed, it is a violation of personal property. Even if the tagger doesn’t have to actually step on to a property – tagging a building or fence along a sidewalk – it’s my property and it’s going to cost me money and time to repair. If I want something stupid spray painted on my property, I’ll do it myself. And, outside of the fact that tagging is a crime, this muck person has issues – there’s a screw loose that will probably result in more serious crimes at some point in the future, if not already.
How come it is so explicitly stated that it is ” HE” and “HIM” do they know more then they are saying?? Women are also capable of making bad decisions…
Muck!
Another excellent comment from Trish. What a loon!
I saw a lot of new graffiti today on the Northbank trails and specifically, the canal section (near the ramp) on the backside of Maymont.
What a pair they would make….Mo Karn and Trish. There must be a full moon cause all of the whack jobs are coming out.
Love it Mo! All the activism daddy can buy! You’re an inspiration to idle youth and trustifarians everywhere. Probably Muckman too. Thanks, also, for confirming Mucker’s gender for us. Lt. Dan, it sounds like Mo has knowledge of these crimes and should be questioned.
“very personal. its ike being slapped in the face”
sounds more than a bit paranoid.
its NOT about you. ok.
When did all Richmond’s grandparents learn to use the internet and why are they here?
http://wingnutrva.org/2014/03/30/muckman-vs-rpd/
they have been tagging this city for years why the fuss, fix up so you want get painted up
Mo. You are living on dad’s dime. U are worthless. Just like the rest of the morons that support this criminal act.
How can a community possibly uphold any integrity or morals when people like muck are going around and drawing cute things on walls. Oh, wait, making pointed jabs at one particular person that seems “odd” is totally the way to create a bright shining future for the next generation, right? Priorities.
I would love to see all this energy directed at limited partnerships that hoard vacant properties and refuse to fix them up, or sell them, and do something to change laws that allow blighted properties to exist for decades. I realize many of these properties can’t clear title/ownership for various reasons but their existence lowers property values and welcomes vandalism. How about going after the real cause of the problem? Taggers have been around here for a long time, it’s the frequency that ebbs and flows.
Good! I’m glad someone’s getting after this person(s). The guy isn’t making a political statement by tagging things with ‘Mucky’ or whatever. He’s showing that he can tag whatever he wants, he thinks it’s hilarious that people are pissed off, and he takes pride in his work–like any common vandal. Every time I see one of their tags it makes me so mad! On old stone walls overlooking the city, on nice buildings, even on sh*t buildings. Graffiti is symptomatic of not caring about others. When I see this person’s “artwork” I see someone who said, ‘Lol, look what I can get away with.’ It’s disrespectful of the neighbors. I hope the person gets caught and charged appropriately. Same goes for the SK person tagging places around the Bottom. No one is impressed by your ability to spray paint your nickname or initials on a wall.
THE MUCK MON! RIGHT NEAR DA BEEEEACH! BOYEEEEEE!!!
Crime begets crime. Basic broken windows theory. This is, and should be, a priority.
Hey Mo Karn….why don’t we send MuckMan over to your Barton Heights pad to tag the shit out of it. And, if you don’t like it, we can just send Trish over to piss it all off since it’s no big deal. Oh wait, you beat us to it and destroyed your own property. I’m certain your neighbors just love having you and your ilk on the street. Be proud Mo…be very proud. I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you need to call on those cops that you so willingly bash. Your posse will protect you, right? You’ll see how fast those little useless emo, pantywaists roll up their shirts and run.

Very well said Laura. Very well Said. But then again, looking at her place and actually looking at her herself, I doubt she cares.
@Raven, I agree with raven that name calling isn’t the way to go, but it’s not because someone seems “odd”. It’s the message(s). Come on, Promoting “street art” and acab tags”; does that promote positive attitudes and respect for a bright shining future?
Mo, if Muck Man is protesting the cops mistreatment of the homeless, etc. isn’t there a better way to do it? Painting crap on other people’s property isn’t the best way to promote awareness of a serious problem we have w/law enforcement. I know the tags brought this issue to attention but I doubt the people who are upset about the tagging will give a damn about what police do as long as their lives & property are protected. I respect you & know you care more for Richmonders thantoo many people realize but I think there are better ways to get Muck Man’s message out there. Put a link to the specific incidents your previous link alluded to & how people can respond & HELP stop the abuse. We can only hope some readers will check it out & get involved w/the good work you do & Muck Man seems to want to do in his/her own obscure way(that is, until you attempted to put some legitimacy behind his waste-of-paint-divisive-scrawl-intended-as-a-msg-to-an-unconcerned-audience.)
Anarchy Now! http://www.boredpanda.com/funny-first-world-anarchists-rebels/
It’s very unfortunate that Mo has used her expensive St. Catherine’s education to be a paranoid, criminal sympathizing, anarchist diva.
It’s not what he is writing it’s HOW MUCH he has been tagging. Ol mucky wasn’t the first either Mo so don’t feel so entitled. In the early 1990’s SCHMOO was tagged everywhere and the city gave the same press to stop it. It is expensive and destructive and it helps no one but hurts many. It makes our city look bad, and since you have been fighting to make the city great mo, I would think you wouldn’t be sympathizing with mucky who is making it look bad.
Mo thinks spending public money chasing after Muckman is cute.
She ought to be more concerned about spending those dollars on the poor folks around here that really need some help.
@29 “Hey Mo Karn….why don’t we send MuckMan over to your Barton Heights pad to tag the shit out of it”
That would cause hundreds of dollars in improvements.
