Demolition coming for house on Mechanicsville
04/17/2014 8:25 AM by John M
On a stretch of street with perhaps the highest density of vacant houses in the area, the lonely house at 1513 Mechanicsville Turnpike is facing demolition.
The city lists the house as having been built in 1910, and the property is assessed at $50,000.
TAGGED: Mechanicsville Turnpike
Looks like something from a movie.
I believe it has been vacant and open to the elements since at least 1999. Perhaps if the city moved quicker on abandoned properties, this house could have been sold and salvaged
Agreed. It’s a beautiful house. A shame to lose it.
They had worked on it since 1999. It did not look like that in 1999… it was on its way to be rehabbed but work stopped. The city loves to demolish its architectural treasures…
Those windows are fairly new… I wonder what the rush is?
I meant to bring this back up on Wednesday to say this and at least one or two more houses were demolished. As of yesterday crews were still scooping up debris from the red roof house.
City of Richmond logic: we have houses that kind of look like this one in Chestnut Hill… I mean Highland Park Southern Tip… so it’s ok to demolish all trace of something like this ever being built in another location.
