This better just be temporary for the bike race.
“There, I fixed it.”
That looks terrible…
did the city do this or just two random guys in a truck?
@Chimbo – a few guys with city trucks 🙂
Lovely.
That looks permanent.
seriously?
This is just sad….
Looks like some kind of abstract asphalt sculpture, is this what VCU’s sculpture program has become?
Is this a joke!?
They shut down W. Cary St in Carytown for weeks to install nice, new, accessible, brick cross walks and then come here and through some shit on the ground. Ridiculous!
Where are the local news channels to report on this tragedy??
It’s temporary, a friend just went over and talked to the city crew that is there. They are taking it back up on Monday after the bike races; there is fabric under the asphalt so that it won’t stick to the cobblestones and will be easier to remove. It’s just there to get rid of the curb for the bikes.
That’s disgusting.
Steph,
If some tacky concrete is a “tragedy,” then I believe we are all doomed.
I like it.
EWR,
LOL, touche. I was being just a little dramatic 😉
Thanks, crd, for the info!
@23 You’re welcome. @24, the city crew told my girl friend that they were coming Monday to remove it. We’re both activists, if they don’t come to remove it, one or the other of us will bug them until they show up!
Uh sort of how they paved 21st Street and said they’d fix it later? Funny how the last bike race ran it pretty well without it the paving.
Oh, BTW, if the bikers are going counter clockwise around the statue….(pssst) it’s on the wrong side. (Mum’s the word.)
Still, possibly one of the best areas to watch the race. Be there or be square!
please pardon my liguistic typo…..
If you think this is bad wait until next year for the BIG Worlld Races. They are planning on soooo much more without our inputs and comments – that is unless we are at the table and speak collectively with the City and race officials.
CHA forming an advisory group to work with them before things are just done to our neighborhood. Example: cutting down some of the trees in Libby Park to improve TV coverage …..Yikes!
Talk here after the fact is fine – but doesn’t solve the issues or prevent the ugly future.
Stay tuned for more info on forming the working group with 2015 Cycling, city officials and neighbors.
You guys find the stupidest sh*t to complain about. It’s not even permanent and 90% of you have your panties in a bunch… really?
And you’re complaining about people complaining! I protest!
Complaining? How about just making a valid observation. I come here just to laugh a little each day. Carry on!
@Wow
I think the main point is this, this is a historic district. If I even do something as small as change the tint of paint on the trim of my shed, I have to submit for approval, along with research and 12 copies for submission to a historic committee. The city does whatever they want: crop trees around lines that look like hell, run over posts in Libby hill park and not even attempt to stand them upright, butcher the grass in the many of parks, pave over “historic” streets, and yes, take some cheap, crappy looking, black top asphalt and make transitions for the bike race (which I think we should start a bet to how long it will actually stay there). The city should hold themselves to the same standards, as the people that pay taxes and actually provide the city workers with their jobs.
This is obviously the new ramp for the loading dock of the new Wal-Mart they’re building on Libby Hill.
Seriously guys.
