Lt.Minton’s Sector 111 report for May (PDF) is now available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill:

So far this year we have had 32 violent crimes compared to 31 last year. Violent crime in April was even with last year at 6 offenses.

We went from 5 to 3 in robberies. 2 of these robberies occurred in Greater Fulton. One was a home invasion where we have arrested 2 people so far. We are still looking for one individual to pick up (ABOVE).

The other robbery in Greater Fulton was the attempted robbery of a lady coming home in the early morning hours. The suspects in this incident are described as a black male, dark skinned, black pants, black t shirt, possible beard, 20-27, 5’9”, 175lbs, holding a large automatic handgun; the other suspect is described as a black male, dark skinned, shorts, white t shirt with a print, possibly wearing a baseball cap, 5’7”, 165lbs. A shot was fired during this incident but thankfully no one was injured.

We also has a robbery in the 1900 block of Venable Street in Union Hill. The suspect in this case is described as a dark skinned black female, 24 to 25 years of age, small/slim build wearing a black hoodie, with the hood on her head and black pants, described as having a deep voice. She was driving a ford pickup truck, possibly an older Ford Ranger.

The other 3 violent crimes were aggravated assaults. Two of them were domestic related. All the cases have been cleared by an arrest.

Property crime for April was down by –22% compared to last year during the same time period.

Burglaries went from 9 to 8. Two of these were to sheds. Bikes have been the popular targets. We recently arrested 2 juveniles stealing bikes in the area were these have occurred. As I have said in the past, don’t discount kids when thinking of possible suspects. These kids were 13 and 15 years of age.

The other 6 burglaries were of residences. We have made arrests in 3 of these.

A special thanks to the Richmond Fire Department for helping our K9 unit locate a burglar that was hiding in an attic at one of these burglaries. They used some special technology to pinpoint were he was hiding.

Although we saw a recent spike in Thefts from Motor Vehicles in Shockoe Bottom, this crime category was only up by 2 compared to last year. We have also made an arrest in this crime as well. The suspect was breaking into cars even though he had to use crutches to get around.

Larcenies in general were down by –18%. We saw a nice decrease in our Auto Theft crime category enjoying a -67% reduction. Overall crime in Sector 111 was down by -20% this past month. Crime for the year in our sector is down by –9% so far.

We are having a sector problem solving workshop on May 31st. Please RSVP if you can attend. As always thank you for the hard work you, the citizens, contribute to helping us make sector 111 a safer place to live and work!
