Shoplifting up 1,800% in Sector 113
Lt.Blackwell’s Sector 113 report for May (PDF) is now available for all points north of Carrington and Nine Mile.
We are still experiencing an increase in property crime. […] The driving factor in our property crime numbers are Shoplifting incidents. For the year we have experienced an increase of 1,800% in shopliftings. We are currently working with the businesses in the sector in an attempt to create an environment in which the opportunity for offenders is not as frequent.
Below are the crime stats for the First Quarter / Year 2014:
MAJOR CRIMES January 1, 2014 – April 1, 2014
Violent Crime (2014 compared to 2013)
2013: 60
2014: 30
Result: 50% DecreaseProperty Crime: (2014 compared to 2013)
2013: 129 (Shoplifting: 2)
2014: 157 (Shoplifting: 38)
Result: 22% IncreaseTOTAL CRIME
MAJOR CRIME (2013 compared to 2012)
2013: 189
2014: 187
Result: 1% Decrease
Can someone clarify if this is the 1Q14 vs the entire year of 13? Or 1Q14 vs 1Q13? Because if it’s the former, not the latter, that math doesn’t work.
It’s this year compared to the same time period last year.
I agree kat, 38/2=19 which would be 1,900% not 1,800%. Close enough for goverment work
@3 – 1900% is often referred to as a 1800% increase (since the first 100% would be no change).
On a related note, I find the use of percentages for really small incidence rate stuff kind of misleading. There’s always going to be some natural level of “noise” in the data when you look at small sample sizes.
