Church Hill Crime Watch recognizes local officers and Lt.Dan
The Church Hill Crime Watch recently presented awards to two First Precinct officers and sector Lt. Dan Minton to thank all of them for their hard work.
Retired RPD Sgt. John Henry Taylor and Shelby Long recognized Officer Gaetano Drago for his dedicated efforts to clean up a problem block plagued with several crimes and his role in clearing two taxicab robberies.
“This kind of determination and work ethic is what is transforming the East End,” they wrote. “This is what is bringing new businesses and new home owners to the area. This is neighborhood revitalization at its finest!”
Detective Brian Taylor was honored for his work clearing several robberies.
“Detective Taylor has an uncanny ability to gain the trust of witnesses, informants, and suspects. This ability has served him well in achieving the second highest clearance rate in the precinct,” they wrote. “He also has a natural talent for uncovering the truth. He was able to prove that 5 incidents that were initially reported as robberies were proved otherwise. These reports can unnecessarily effect crime stats and tie up much-need manpower.”
“In addition to these traits, Det. Taylor is the definition of a team player. It is rare that he is not the one of the first on scene for high priority calls. His drive, natural ability, and true desire to make the East End a better place to live, work, and play make him a natural choice for this honor.”
I think Shelby Long should get an honor for her years of dedication. She has made the police departments job a lot easier than it could have been. Thank you Ms. Long!!!!
Early in the crime watch, she is the one that figured out why the same houses were being broken into 3 and 4 times within a year! Once this was made clear to the victims, it stopped cold!
I sure do miss the good ol days when we would chase suspects down alleys in my turquiose pickup truck, pin em to a wall with that 1950’s fat bumper and wait for the police to show up! That put a stop to some activities cold too!!!
