Exciting night on Jefferson Avenue

@britsauce: So, this is what happens when you come flying around Jefferson Park. You take out a traffic light, trash can, a parked car and end up in our neighbor’s yard. No one was seriously injured.
TAGGED: Jefferson Avenue
Exciting morning in Jefferson Park as well. Squad car 9104 going 45-50mph down Jefferson Ave with no lights or sirens. Keeping it safe.
@Ted H
Point taken, but there was likely a reason for that. That squad car does not represent what goes on with *many* vehicles driven recklessly by citizens-impaired &/or distracted. Lt. Dan follows these posts, and is *very* proactive about feedback regarding Officer actions.
@UnionHillian No doubt, he had somewhere to be quickly –So what was the reason why the squad car couldn’t turn on his lights or siren?
@UnionMeetsChurch
As does every Citizen, you have the right to call/email or go by 1st Precinct in person and inquire. Until you do one of these things, you will have done nothing more than post your questions to “a general audience” which has no answers
At times an officer has to respond quickly but chooses not to use lights and sirens so that they can catch a criminal in the act. If someone is committing a crime and hears sirens, it is entirely possible that they would leave the scene before the officer gets there. I am married to an RPD officer and we have talked about this on several occasions when I have questioned the same thing. Are there ones who drive fast because they can? I am sure there are, but just be aware there are legitimate reasons for not using lights and sirens.
@6 – as I read it:
https://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+46.2-920
the law is pretty clear that emergency vehicles need their sirens and lights if they are going to disregard traffic laws. While your husband might think it’s necessary, nobody is above the law… especially not those who make their living enforcing it.
There’s no difference between a cop flying through a residential neighborhood without proper signaling and KAAATIE. Here’s hoping that Lt. Dan disciplines this wreckless officer.
@3 and 5 – so first Lt. Dan reads these posts and then it’s pointless to post here? Which is it?
Hit my child in the street with no lights and sirens and see who’s attorney comes calling.
