Enrichmond, partnering with the City of Richmond Departments of Parks and Recreation and Public Works, The Martin Agency, Friends of Chimborazo Park, Blue Bee Cider, and Goat Busters announces the first 2014 Earth Day Richmond Community Impact Project- Chimborazo Orchard Goatscaping.
This Memorial Day weekend and part of next week 40+ goats will be ‘working’ their way through the urban orchard site located adjacent to the Church Hill Dog Park in lower Chimborazo Park. Jace Goodling from Goat Busters anticipates the process taking 4 to 5 days.
If you have never seen goatscaping, love the idea of supporting the urban orchard, or just enjoy the thought of evasive kudzu being eradicated, come out and see the goats in action.

That is pretty cool!
Yay goats!
It’s very San Francisco!
Goat Update:
After reviewing the weather and learning that fireworks and goats do not mix well, we will welcome our herd to their all-you-can-eat buffet Monday, May 26th.
So, on your way baaack from the along weekend stop by and say hello.
Is it possible to “rent a goat” to come take care of my lawn every other weekend?
GOATBUSTERS has a website, if you want details about hiring goats for your yard, or a party or whatever….
Now that it is ok to have geese and chickens, can we keep a pet goat? Or even better, a pig. They are super smart, can be house broken and let into the house.
@#11 Maybe on the goats (and horses and mules). Doubtful on the pigs. A word of caution: goats will eat everything in the yard and then some.
From (not sure if this has been updated since keeping chickens became legal) : http://municipalcodes.lexisnexis.com/codes/richmondva/
Sec. 10-87. Cattle, horses, mules or goats running at large.
It shall be unlawful for the owner or any person in charge thereof to permit any cow, calf, horse, mule or goat to go at large, graze or pasture on any street, alley, park or unenclosed lot within the city. No person shall keep any cow within the city with bells on. Any cow, horse or mule found so going at large shall, under the direction of the chief of police, be placed at some stable within the city, and the chief of police shall at once advertise in some daily newspaper the fact of finding and placing such animal in such stable. Unless the owner shall, within six days, appear and claim such animal and pay the cost of its keep, the chief of police shall sell the animal at public auction, after first advertising the time and place of the sale in some daily newspaper. Out of the proceeds of the sale, the expenses of such keep and advertisement shall be paid, and any residue remaining therefrom shall be deposited in the city treasury, where it shall remain until claimed by the owner of such animal.
Sec. 10-88. Keeping and running at large of hogs, pigs and fowl.
(a)
No hog or pig shall be kept on any premises or allowed to go at large within the city, provided that hogs and pigs may be kept at the Maymont Park as educational exhibitions.
(b)
No person shall keep, place or maintain fowl on any parcel of real property in the city which contains less than 50,000 square feet in area.
(c)
All fowl shall be kept in securely and suitably fenced areas, and no fenced area or pen for fowl shall be permitted closer than 500 feet to any house or other building used for residential purposes by anyone other than the person maintaining such fowl or such person’s immediate family.
(d)
Every person maintaining any area for keeping fowl shall keep it clean, sanitary and free from refuse. All feed or other material intended for consumption by birds shall be kept in containers impenetrable by rats or other rodents, and such containers shall be equipped with tightly fitting caps or lids. The presence of rats in an area used for the keeping of fowl shall be prima facie evidence that such area is maintained in violation of this section.
Westover Plantation is looking to rehome their goat, Murray. He’s lovely. Maybe he could join the goat pack/herd in Chimborazo.
Where are the goats?
