EVEN CHICKENS KNOW IT’S STUPID TO WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREETS
06/09/2014 9:32 AM by John M
I was busy cursing out a family of 3 in my mind for walking down the middle of the street in Church Hill, when I then saw a random family of chickens walking single file down the sidewalk. EVEN CHICKENS KNOW IT’S STUPID TO WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREETS.
Given the conditions of some of our sidewalks, I think one could argue that only chickens can use them.
Yea I second that, some of our sidewalks are not very walkable…..
I saw this yesterday and cursed myself for not getting a picture–thanks for posting one! Hilarious.
If I let my small herd of unicorns roam free like that, I bet animal control would be called, unicorns confiscated and banned from the city…quite a setback for the burgeoning urban backyard unicorn movement.
Lt. Dan needs to be informed so he can round em up!
It would have been interesting if they would have made it to the park when the Boa was there-
Boa vs. Flock of chickens!
Im surprised no loose dogs got after them….
I feel sorry for the people in wheelchairs or on scooters forced to roll down the road because the sidewalks are so uneven. But if you can walk, you should be on the sidewalk.
Living in the city…wonders everywhere you turn. Great picture!
I saw these chickens yesterday at 33rd & Clay and tried to figure out where they were escaping from, with no success. My dog was totally uninterested.
“Free Range Chickens” in The Hill?? How come there’s not a “Free Range Chicken” sandwich at Union Market yet…??!! We’re slackin’ folks…
Have these chickens been caught? Does anyone know who they belong to? Do we need to organize a capture and return effort? I don’t see any indication of someone looking for their missing flock.
Chickens have NO street smarts as they are so domesticated and dependant on humans. They won’t last long running loose and are not only endangered by dogs but opossums, and raccons.
Given the location, I’m guessing these are the same chickens that were the subject of a post back in May: (http://chpn.net/news/2014/05/04/missing-any-baby-hens_33603/)
It did appear then that the owner was trying, if somewhat haphazardly, to make the whole chicken thing work (I’m leaving aside the whole “more than 4” issue). We offered help at that point with proper enclosures and other general chicken care info, but the chicken owner did not take us up on that. Not sure what condition the house, yard, and “coop” are in now…gonna guess still not ideal.

I read your postings on “missing-any-baby-hens”.
Looks like you have this one figured out. Thank you!
@13 – yes and they were yummy!
They belong to the house on the northwest corner of 33rd and clay. They are always running around! Not penned in at all there isn’t even a fence. I’m surprised the dogs it cats haven’t gotten to them.
