Church Hill Association Alley Rally set for June 21
The Church Hill Association Alley Rally will be held on Saturday, June 21 (rain or shine), from 8:30 AM – 1PM, (or until the trucks are full). Volunteer to help clean up our community and make the neighborhood a better place to live!
Alley Rally has two volunteer shifts: the first shift volunteers will meet at 8:30 – 10:30 AM, at the Libby Hill Park House for snacks, safety briefing and team assignments.
Second shift volunteers (10:45 AM to 1 PM) meet at Richmond East District Initiative offices, corner 25th and M Street (across from The Roosevelt) for the second shift safety briefing and truck assignments.
All volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for moving alley materials, debris, limbs, etc. and gloves are necessary. They will have some loaners but it would be helpful if you bring your own. Volunteers should also be prepared to walk a few blocks during the Alley Rally – as we are not permitted to ride on the trucks.
Residents should put things to be picked in their allies and mark them to be removed. Inappropriate material will not be picked up, (hazardous materials, construction debris and items too large/heavy etc.). Items to be picked up or not are at the discretion of the City workers and the Alley Rally team leaders.
For more information contact John Johnson at (804)814-1066 or mksm1@msn.com.
I can only immagine how bad our neighborhood would be without this clean up.
I asked what areas will be covered, John Johnson says
“Libby Hill to Venerable and 18th to 35th., if possible.
Most it depends on how soon we fill the three garbage trucks.”
Yup – we need volunteers to make this work.
We should have 18+ folks per shift or 6 per truck. If not enough folks will have smaller crews or send a truck back to the City unused.
Please show up for one of the two shifts, put out items (not your regular trash) in the alley and mark it, “Alley Rally”, so we don’t pass it by.
