821 North 25th Street (1950s) (UPDATE)
06/13/2014 8:26 AM by John M
Deanna sent this in as a accompaniment to the piece on her O Street project: “Here is a photo of 821 n 25th st from the 50’s from city hall.”

UPDATE: A undisclosed buyer says “the property is under contract and will be developed as a retail/restaurant space with an apartment above.”

Such an odd place; it looks like the back is against 25th, the front facing the alley.
I hope so…I have been pushing the city for a couple of years to get this property abated. The owners died years ago and no one has maintained it. It is really holding the rest of the block back.
The weathered, screwed up, graffiti-soaked green on the side of that house is not found anywhere else. It’s beautiful. Can we somehow salvage the color?
Did everyone else look at the double house next to it was converted to a single (fire?) and the house next to it is a new infill? At least the block’s looks have been retained and nothing “modern” put in that did not match. Wonder how this business looked when built out… probably not very pretty but simply functional.
J… if you like baby-poop green 🙂 The ghetto siding has to go for sure.
