Fire, Flour & Fork will showcase Richmond, local talent

Fire, Flour & Fork, “a two-and-a-half day culinary event … celebrating the best the Richmond region has to offer”, is set for late October and will spotlight such local stars such as the Metzger Bar & Butchery’s Brittanny Anderson, Hispania Bakery’s Maria Onsel, Randall Doetzer of Julep’s, WPA Bakery’s Shola Walker, 2300 Club’s Michael Hall, Sub Rosa Bakery’s Evrim Dogu, and The Roosevelt’s Lee Gregory.

Maureen Egan, one of the event organizers, describes Fire, Flour & Fork as a showcase not only of the food but of Richmond itself:

“We use a lot of the F-words,” Egan said, “and chefs do, too — but one we’re not using is festival. This is a more curated experience. Festivals are great, but we want people to soak in the weekend.”

With Fire, Flour & Fork, Egan said they wanted to bring something different to the national dining event scene.

“When we looked at other cities’ food events, in certain ones, there’s not a huge sense of place,” she said. “We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, but we are trying to do something different than Charleston and Atlanta (food festivals).”

The event will also feature an Urban State Fair at St. John’s Church that Saturday.

Tickets for Fire, Flour & Fork go in sale July 15.
