Lt.Minton’s Sector 111 report for July (PDF) is now available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill:

So far this year we have had 56 violent crimes compared to 43 last year. Violent crime in the 2nd Quarter was up from 18 to 30 offenses. Robberies went from 8 to 15 and Aggravated Assaults went from 8 to 14 compared to last year. We have made some arrests on these robberies and have solid suspect information on others. We look forward to closing some of these in the near future. All but 3 of the Aggravated Assaults have been cleared by arrest. The frustration has come from the senseless reasons that a lot these crimes were committed.

Property crime for the 2nd Quarter was up by 2 crimes compared to last year. Burglaries went from 20 to 30 with shed burglaries accounting for the majority of this crime issue. We went from 0 to 11 in this category alone. Residential burglaries actually have gone down by 3. Larcenies in general were down by 6.

A notable increase in the Larceny category has been Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts. The majority of these occurred in Greater Fulton with license plates and inspection stickers being the primary targets. Motor Vehicle Theft in general was down by 1.

For the year, property crime is down by 7 and overall crime is up by 6 crimes to put things in perspective.

Lets talk about the shed burglaries again and how we, together, can stop this, we are asking people to call us when they see people walking through the alleys or lurking behind residences.

Its likely that the suspect(s) are using some type of truck or van to haul what they steal from these scenes. The suspect(s) vehicle may just look like a standard work vehicle. Feel free to call us at 646-5100 so we can come out and verify the legitimacy of the vehicle in the alley or behind a house.

Bike thefts have also been on the rise in the area as well. A couple bikes were taken after being left unattended for as little as ten minutes. We have taken re- ports for bikes being taken from porches, back yards, and next to houses. We are asking citi- zens to keep their bikes locked inside.

Another way you can help us arrest some of these thieves is to call us when you see someone or hear of someone trying to sell a bicycle, lawnmower, or weed eater. The trend has been to steal these items and turn around and sell them on the street for a fraction of their value. You don’t have to leave your name or information when you call. Just point us in the right direction with a good description of the suspect.

Don’t forget National Night Out 2014 is right around the corner. Please make sure that you have registered your event on the departments website. If you need help with this feel free to call me.

As always thank you for the hard work you, the citizens, contribute to helping us make Sector 111 a safer place to live and work!
