“Please do not urinate here!”

On the park building at Chimborazo Playground.
TAGGED: Chimborazo Playground
Classy…
What will happen to this building? It would be so great to have somewhere to urinate with kids!
Initially, the city planned to knock it down and replace it with a shade structure. BUt i think they blew all their budgeted money on the pentanque courts.
Perhaps “where to go to the bathroom and where not to go” should be added to our school systems cirriculum.
Say what you like about the graffiti, that bathroom REEKS of pee from 50 feet away. I once had to move a hose that was stored inside that structure, and everywhere it brushed against me I reeked of pee, too. I gagged the whole way home to my shower.
Friend of mine had to take her spouse to St. Mary’s early one morning, and leave him for an outpatient procedure. She got coffee and went looking for a space outside to sit and read, then found a small park down the street – complete with a CLEAN bathroom, with toilet tissue! I suppose it was in Henrico, since the city line ends at Willow Lawn Drive, which makes me even more angry. Why can’t we have well behaved park goers, and a workable bathroom!
It is possible to make the city provide clean bathrooms at a park. There is a small playground behind the old Westhampton School at Patterson and Libby. It is near St. Mary’s. I happened to kill some time there. There was an unlocked bathroom, very clean, with toilet paper and paper towels! Maybe it is a partnership between a community group, and the city, but I was very impressed. Does that only happen in the West End? As many people as we have in our park, we deserve a functioning bathroom. Then we won’t have people peeing in the corners.
I think it is a demographic thingy. I have been told that drugs used to be dealt out of the Jefferson Park bathrooms. Locking the bathrooms or even removing them makes it easier for the police and parks dept to keep the area safe.
I’m think it is older Petanque crowd peeing in the park and not the basketball players. Also last Sunday afternoon I saw, (either Petanque or Basketball players – really couldn’t tell), shooting craps and actively gambling near the children’s play area.
Maybe a police walk through from time to time during major gatherings – might curtail some of the open wrongful peeing and gambling in/on our playgrounds by whomever is doing such.
Unfortunately, unlocked bathrooms often tend to provide shelter for “activities” other than they were intended for.
Umm, Playground User, do you really believe the Petanque crew urinates there??? FYI, they have a key to one of the bathrooms and they also use nearby member’s houses when they have to go.
I can also tell you that the Petanque gang most assuredly doesn’t play craps and the vast majority of them wouldn’t even know what you’re talking about.
But, go ahead and bash them as that’s popularly accepted nowadays. And by all means, do not give them (or any of the other well meaning park neighbors) any credit for how the park is now compared to the cesspool and drug haven it used to be 10 years ago.
And hopefully PG, if you saw something illegal, you reported it to the police, right?
Bill 3 has it right. Unlocked bathrooms do provide opportunities for less than savory activities. While it would be nice to have unlocked facilities, you can expect an increase in stuff most folks don’t want going on.
@Mike – Playground User is kidding.
I’m sick of the patentee bashing myself. The divisive negativity has to stop.
Thanks CHPN – I should have caught that (:-)
Divisiveness is indeed bad and unproductive…
We will keep an eye on the issue. Feel free to call the non-emergency line at 646-5100 when you see illegal activity going on there.
