Man shot to death on Fairfield Avenue
At approximately 5:47 p.m., officers were called to the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found a black male in his 30s suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center where he succumbed to his injury.

This marks the 3rd homicide in the East End so far in 2014. Across the city as a whole there have been 27 killings, up from 22 at this time last year.
Going back to at least 1998 (and likely *much* farther back given the climate of Richmond in the 1980s and 1990s), the lowest number of killings that East End has recorded in any one year is nine, a mark reached in both 2009 and 2012. As a word of perspective, though: in 2012 there had only been three homicides by this date, but four people would be killed in September.

Victim Identified in Fairfield Avenue Homicide
The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Saturday’s homicide as Keith D. Evans, 37, of the 1600 block of Glenfield Avenue.
At approximately 5:47 p.m., officers were called to the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found Evans suffering from a gunshot wound.
Evans was transported to VCU Medical Center where he died.
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
