Man shot overnight in Fulton
09/02/2014 10:40 AM by John M
[…] occurred at 12:50 a.m. today in the 1200 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard, in the city’s East End, where officers found a man with life-threatening injuries. The victim was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.
I heard these shots last nigh around 1, was actually hoping it was fireworks again…
Is the apartment complex located along Admiral Gravely and Government Road a Section 8 property?
Laura, there is a small public housing complex on Admiral Gravely Blvd at Government Road. It’s RRHA’s smallest complex. I know it as Rainbow Village but the name was changed a few years ago. The larger apartments, Ashley Forest, on Government Road and Jennie Scher (Admiral Gravely Blvd becomes Jennie Scher across Government) is privately owned. The houses on Admiral Gravely Blvd are all privately owned.
The immediate area is referred to as Fulton (or Historic Fulton), and the entire neighborhood is referred to as Greater Fulton. Greater Fulton includes Fulton, Fulton Hill and Montrose Heights. It’s an active community with a strong civic association, a very long history (Historic Fulton was older than Church Hill and is known as the birthplace of Richmond) and a lot of civic pride.
Laura you are very educated about the Fulton area. I attended a meeting yesterday at the Rainbow Villiage. apartments. RRHA does oversee this HUD. property. They are hoping to start a tenant council there. With resident participation and a strong council the property can be transformed. I would love to meet with you and get some ideas . You have already given me a lot of help. Thank you for your post.
