RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A 4-year-old girl is dead after being shot in the chest with a pellet gun. This happened in the 1500 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike.
The call came in around 8:15 p.m. Police are calling it a “family tragedy.” It is a nightmare scenario for any mother.
Channel 8 is also saying:
… the girl was home with teenage brothers and her mother had just arrived home from the store when this happened
I’m no gun control zealot but guns were created to do one thing–kill. Yes, even BB guns.
I’m very sorry for the family. It was obviously an accidental death, albeit an avoidable one. My condolences to them on what must be the worst day of their lives.
The pellet gun part was a big twist. I was originally thinking cross-fire like so many other tragedies of this kind. Her brothers are going to have a terrible weight on their shoulders and I feel bad for them also. It was pretty clearly a bad idea in hindsight but more of the childish than criminal type.
