The grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Armstrong Bike Park behind Armstrong High School is tomorrow, Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11 AM.

Spearheaded by Richmond Cycling Corps, and funded by Bon Secours, other local companies, private donations, the park continues the great work that Richmond Cycling Corps has been doing for the past few years.

From Richmond Cycling Corps:

Trail conditions are looking to be perfect on Saturday. Bring your mountain-bike, and be a part of history as we celebrate the Grand Opening of the Armstrong Bike Park. If you don’t have a mountain bike…we do! KONA Bikes will be available for use. Changing Richmond, and minimizing excuses for not attending events…this is RCC!

Laura Kebede has a great write-up on the new park in the RTD:

“They literally can come out of their front door and mountain bike” in an urban setting, Dodson said. The nonprofit has trained young cyclists from Fairfield Court since 2010, and Dodson said the field was a “huge blank canvas” for a quality training ground and hopes it will be an anchor for future school programs throughout the city.

The 1-mile trail circles an estimated 6-acre field owned by Richmond Public Schools between the school and Fairfield Court, Richmond’s fourth-largest public housing complex.
