I am so sick of street light outages! Nothing at 26th and Broad. Thanks, John for posting this so timely!
It is happening more often.
So, after I called the police non-emergency line, and they told me that they “had a report of this” I then called the City phone for gas, water and street lights. Interesting response from the woman who finally answered the phone at 646-3000. She said first “yes we have a report and we have someone out looking at it.” When I asked her what had caused it she said she did not know. Then she threw this in: “Well, I live in Henrico and we don’t have street lights.” I asked for her name, and there was such silence I thought she’d hung up, but she finally came back and said she was “Ms. Johnston.” Then she reiterated that she lives in the county, has all her life, and has no street lights, the idea being that she does not understand why it’s a problem.
Was just walking my dog and twice came across two young women walking by themselves in the pitch dark. This is *unacceptable* – is this some way for the city to save money like a “furlough night” or something?!?
Wow crd… well maybe she thinks we all should be in the dark…
@8 apparently she doesn’t think it matters, that’s all I can say. She was seriously not responsive. I AM PISSED!
@7 Ted – yea, well, I emailed Lt. Dan. but I also called the police non-emergency line and was told that they’d talked to the city, which did not help me a bit.
I’m more concerned about traffic lights. Like the one at 25th and Main being out on Friday morning. Amazingly the majority of drivers remembered what to do at a four-way stop.
We haven’t had a working bulb at 28th and Franklin for weeks. How many assaults in the last year within a couple blocks?
I rode my bike to the slip to meet some friends for dinner late yesterday afternoon. The ride home to Church Hill at 9 pm was a scary, creepy and pitch black dark. I passed several people on bikes who didn’t have any lights. I hope the City gets the issue fixed by tonight. If RVA wants to be a bike/walk town, we really need reliable lighting.
