The EPA announced on Tuesday that Richmond is one of the five cities selected for the 2014 Greening America’s Capitals program.

The goal of the program is “to help state capitals develop an implementable vision of environmentally friendly neighborhoods that incorporate innovative green infrastructure strategies. […] These pilots are often the testing ground for citywide actions, such as changes to local codes and ordinances to better support sustainable growth and green infrastructure.”

From the RTD:

The improvements will focus on a 1/3-mile stretch of Jefferson Avenue, a road that connects Church Hill and Union Hill. The idea is that the changes will make the neighborhood nicer for residents and improve the environment.

The EPA award includes design and technical assistance, but no funding for the actual work.
