Kids suspected in daytime B&E on Chimborazo
10/21/2014 9:38 AM by John M
Melissa posted a heads-up on the CHPN Facebook page:
My home was burglarized Sunday at Chimborazo and Clay. It was 12 noon and I only left the house for an hour. Please make sure you are keeping your doors locked and alarm systems on when you are leaving even during the day.
My doors were locked but I didn’t set the alarm.
The police suspect a group of boys so if you see anything suspicious call the police.
I’m sure this is the same group of teenagers that are breaking into everyone’s cars and stealing pretty much everything they can across Church Hill.
This group is pretty obvious who they are. There is one white kid, who dresses in skater type attire. Tighter jeans skate shoes. He is 17. (Personally identifying info removed. – John) He walks with a hunched back.
He usually hangs with a group of African American males, usually 2-4 others. They live along Chimbo blvd and a few are from Fulton. They continually are walking between Chimbo Park, O and Chimbo blvd, George mason elementary and Libby Hill Park.
EVERYONE BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THESE PUNKS. Call the police if you see them walking around at night… they are minors. They are always up to no good.
I’ve seen that same group of guys hanging out across the street from my house on the 700 block of 35th. They frequent Bill Robinson Park. Thanks for posting this!
Also, watch areas near abandoned houses… a group of 2-4 teen boys stole a moped several months ago and stashed it in an abandoned shed.
I saw that group last night scattering heading south from chimbo at Leigh in three different groups at about 10:30. Related to these other more malicious crimes, I wonder??
I’m gonna beat that ass if I see them!
Any pictures of this group available? My perception is that there has definitely been an increase in garage and home break-ins along Chimbo over the past few months.
I am almost 100% sure that this is the same group….. I’ve heard several people have got video take of this group, maybe they can post some?
I’ve been forwarded a few videos of who have to be the kids under discussion.
The person who forwarded it, though was told by a police officer that they could be legally liable as the persons recorded are minors. Also, it is obvious whose home the video is from.
If any of you are going to the CHA meeting tonight, you might want to bring this up with the police representative who is there.
Where is this meeting? I have to see what these little s#%^s look like. I’ve had my garage broken into three times in the past 2 months and all during the daytime, so id like to have an idea of what or whom to look for.
The CHA meeting is tonight at 7PM at St.John’s.
Is the spokesman for Richmond police going to be able to tell us or me what I can do if I come across them breaking in to or caught in the act? This idea of taking a report over the phone 3-5 days after the incident happened is starting to get old and I would like to take matters into my own hands at this time.
Brandon, I would say im 99.999% positive your break in’s have been these little punks. All this crap has been happening since they have started “hanging” around…
Evidentally the problem is the police have not been able to catch them in many of the “acts”.
@9, Church Hill Association General Membership meeting, 7 p.m. Oct. 21, is at St. John’s Church Parish Hall at 25th and Broad Streets. There is usually a police representative there. You don’t need to be a member to attend.
I say we start a REAL neighborhood watch and when ever anyone sees these punks out we all get together and watch them until they go home. Who is down??
Was just forwarded 6 photos of kids strongly believed to have been responsible for at least 1 recent crime in that area.
By request, I’ve pulled the photos.
I’m on 29th and had someone attempt a daytime break-in about 2 weeks ago. Came home to find my screens lifted from the outside, and hand prints on the windows where they tried to pry them up. Luckily they gave up before they managed to find a way in. I wonder if it’s the same kids…
I think the idea of a neighborhood watch has merit.
Yep, this is these punk azzes. Without a doubt. Should we post flyers with their pictures?
Brandon, the problem is the police say they:
1) Have to catch them in the act
Or
2) Have a report and then catch them with an identifiable item that they stole.
Sabrina,
I hear the white kid lives right near you (29th)… be on the lookout, he isnt hard to spot
Haha can’t wait to get home today!!! Pretty damn sure that punk ass in the bike is one of my neighbors, makes sense, I couldn’t figure out how they kept breaking in when I would step out to the store for maybe 15 minutes, better yet they got my gagage the first time when I WAS HOME and cutting the front yard instead of the back. I’m going to that meeting tonight
If anyone knows where any of the kids live, would it be good to approach the parents?
John I’m going to have to go out on a limb and say no. Maybe if they were 6-8 years younger. They may be classified as minors, but they’re doing adult crimes and they will be caught and sentenced accordingly.
Brandon,
I will be at the meeting tonight, I’d like to talk to you in person. I’ve had stuff stolen 3 times now. I think it would be interesting to talk to others in the area (29th-chimborazo) who have had stuff stolen
Had my Bike stolen from my fenced backyard with a hacksaw on 33rd and M. Their days of freedom are numbered.
From what I have heard, the police know about the kids, and who’s house they normally stay at, but that isnt enough to build a case against them. They have to be caught in the act or with stolen property.
Unfortunately, since these kids keep getting away with stuff, they think they are outsmarting the law. They will continue to push boundaries and…
Thanks, Chimbo Resident. I think I actually have seen him before. Even went as far to speak to him and ask him how his day was going.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
It is not always minors. I have seen slightly older men sitting on that porch with them as well. There appears to be no parental unit/s at that house and I have also never seen a light on inside. Is there any chance it’s a squat? do any of us around know who lives in tht home?
Blunt wraps and rolling dice on the sidewalk at 9pm.
The above image is definitely the teens in question.
Additionally I am interested in the idea of a neighborhood watch. Police never patrol chimbo. I don’t think I have EVER seen a squad car pass through.
Anon, what’s that address, curious
I’m not comfortable with the address being posted here, somehow crosses that line for me.
Seriously, crosses what line? They didn’t give a shit about the lines they crossed when they broke into my house/ garage.
Sounds like a good place for those open carry activist to setup shop!!!
@30 I’m with you. Maybe someone in the area can talk in person to one of the police at the meeting tonight, maybe even set up a sting or something.
@B – I’m uncomfortable posting specifically identifying info about minors who are at worst suspected of property crime.
By suggestion, I’ve pulled the photos.
To recap – their are juveniles suspected of crimes. A description has been shared. Some of you know who they are.
Perhaps someone will be able to go to the CHA meeting and get a response from the police? If so, please share back.
This may be the same group that broke into my new home at 31st and Q the day after I moved in back in June. The police took fingerprints, but I suppose they can’t match them if they can’t bring those kids in with proof they’ve been breaking and entering. Fortunately the only items missing were Girl Scout cookies and a bottle of coke so…. definitely punks!

Anon, I’m on Chimbo (close to market) and the police patrol all of the time. I’m home all day and see a police car or van drive by multiple times a day. In addition, I called them last night on what may be the same group of boys we are talking about, although I’m hesitant to say that for sure — they drove by the crew of boys about 5 times and stopped once to talk to them. There is only so much they can do without catching them committing a crime. They are just as frustrated as we are as residents. I am sorry everyone is experiencing these things. I have enjoyed 5 years of a relatively quiet crime free life. Makes me sad.
I really doubt these kids are responsible for ALL the crime in the area. I think this is getting out of hand.
They hit my house too! I am on the 800 block of 27th st. and they came on Friday afternoon between 2-5. They tore off all my screens to check to see if any windows were open. luckily they did not get in. I called the police and reported it. I support a neighborhood watch!
I agree with another neighbor.
Just keep in mind as we all have good intentions here there is no proof that “this group of boys” have committed these crimes or that we are all talking about the same boys. It sounds possible in some cases.
I just wanted everyone to be aware so that you are taking the precautions needed to stay safe and if you see any activity that looks out of sorts to call the police. The police are investigating and will continue to do their jobs.
We must be careful not to judge all boys we see because many are just that, young boys. We are all part of this community and we must watch out for each other but we must also be careful to not stereotype.
Everyone here who is claiming they had a break in, I hope you also called the cops at the time – and if you did not, then do so now.
I look forward to a report from someone who attended the CHA meeting.
If you want a neighborhood watch, why not a group of you get together, and start one? That’s better action than going on here and saying you want it. Talk to Lt. Dan and/or his replacement; tell them you want to patrol, take your phones with you, go out ONLY in groups of at least two, then call the cops if you witness something. If you are available during the day when they are out so much the better.
Okay, I’m hearing that both Lt. Dan and Lt. Jeremy attended the CHA meeting and answered a bunch of questions, so some of the posters here must have attended – but I want to hear from someone on here what they thought.
And if you want a crime watch – start one! I watched on this blog when people said they wanted a dog park, and now there’s a well established one. Looking forward to the next action.
If these kids are halfway smart they’ve seen this by now.
Everybody sick my d*** y’all don’t know what tall talking bout so keep the comments to your self
@Melissa
I have proof that these boys did commit crimes. The police officers were able to ID them by the video. I was able to. I could pick them out in a line up. This was not their first offense. The reason they did not arrest them is because the detective said even though the video was good, the judge would say you couldn’t 100% ID them… even if they were picked out of a line up.
I was at the CHA meeting tonight.
To summarize, the police know who these punks are. They were caught running from the scene in the B&E on Chimbo this weekend. Two of these 3 boys (who are actually adults according to police) have already been arrested multiple occasions for B&E’s in Church Hill.
This IS THE GROUP OF BOYS/MEN. I drove past them on Chimbo when the cops had them sitting on the curb.
The police officers were able to ID them, and so were other people in the community. Bottom line, there is not many groups of boys/MEN matching these descriptions that are walking around together in the neighborhood.
I had video proof with these boys/MEN stealing from me. The police went to the one boys house, and his parents said there’s no way he is doing this. They were totally oblivious. The police asked to check his room for stolen items, which they did, and they did not find anything matching my items.
Lt Dan did say that if you see these boys/MEN and they are trying handles (which is illegal according to him) or doing anything else illegal, call 911. They said you would have to go in and testify against them, to prosecute them.
I asked about the curfew and laws with underage kids being out. It is 11:00. They followed some of these kids home one night to Fulton. They were in the apartment before 11:00 curfew. So they know what they are doing, and are doing it DURING the day mainly, and between dark and 11:00.
The problem is these kids are violent. I witnessed them beating a kid in the middle of the street, on Chimbo blvd in broad daylight. It’s a matter of time before their B&E’s get violent, or someone shoots them. I hope it does not escalate to this level…
I will help out with the neighborhood watch, lets get a head count of people who are interested in joining.
Anyone else who was at the meeting, please chime in if I missed anything.
@Rickeybadazz
Of course you would not put your real name, but when Lt. Dan Gets approval to know post pictures of y’all, everyone will know who you all are. There will probably be flyers on the street posts and handed out to all residents soon….. Most of us already know where you live and your name….. So we will be on the look out. I’m sure you will be locked up soon. Y’all are way, way, way to ignorant to not get caught sooner or later.
So we officially know who the hunched over white kid is…….. [personally identifying info removed – John] We will be on the look out for you, to call the police as soon as you make a hiccup. Also, wearing that hoody all the time only helps us easier identify you!!
It is the hysteria that is being sown here that is going to get children killed.
I’m in for the neighborhood patrol. I’m home most days and the one kid lives on my block. Sad home situation there. Email when and where the group should meet.
I do not understand why some seem to believe that intimidating some suspected group of boys via CHPN comments is helpful or at all appropriate, especially as (I am assuming) adults.
@ another neighbor
I completely agree. This is hysteria is the best way to deeply divide a community and promote violence and crime
You guys are ridiculous harassing these people you need to snap into reality there is no way they are committing all these crimes in church hill. Stop posting comments about things you don’t have prove on.
Well that escalated quickly..
@another neighbor and Chimbo
No it’s the actions of these kids that is going to lead to them getting killed. Stealing from cars is one thing. But escalating into B&E is another. What is next armed burglary or robbery? That’s when it really draws the line and someone can get hurt. It has to do with these punk kids, the way they were raised and or their parent supervision. It is widely know known some of these kids have been running around here, on their own for years, without supervision from a young age.
Some of y’all are starting to sound in support of what these kids, boys, men or adults are doing. First of all, at 17 and above they know what they are doing. They have been for some time. Sad part is I hope they get put away before THEY kill someone!!
Y’all are worried about what the community is saying about them, what about what they are doing to the community? This is what divides a community- people not feeling safe. When you can’t have anything in your car or feel like you can’t leave home without your house and garage getting broken into, that’s what divides communities. That’s why people leave communities. These are crimes we want to remove from our community.
The police have IDed this group of males. They HAVE Arrested them before. They are known trouble makers. People have IDed them from surveillance videos.
I think the real purpose of this thread had almost been reached… I wish we could still have the pictures up so people could be aware of these punk males. I’m sure some “concerned” citizen or the “authorities” asked to take them down. Please don’t make it a pitty party on their part, that oh, one is 17 and doesn’t know what he is doing cause he is a minor.
They are living and acting in the big world, stop treating them like the wreckless babies they are…
Those interested in neighborhood watch email me at:
churchhillneighborhoodwatch@gmail.com.
We can get a head count, reach out to Lt. Jeremy and Lt. Dan and hopefully get something together.
Neighborhood watch is a great idea!!
We had an attempted break in a few Fridays back during the day, between 1 and 3. The police got a full hand print from the window they tried to open as well as a few other prints from our freshly painted doors and windowsills. The officer said it was more than likely juveniles and they knew who they were, but couldn’t fingerprint them without probable cause or parental consent. So, these morons just have to slip up once and their lives will be ruined. They have prints from a ton of break ins in the area. Most of me wishes they would have broken in as our silent alarm would have had the police there in minutes.
You should organize this openly. An anonymous neighborhood watch is disconcerting.
Why are these kids not being approached by police for truancy issues if they are known to be underage?
Can we set up a sting?
Walker,
We are currently compiling people who are interested in joining or helping out. It will be properly organized with the input of Lt. Jeremy and Lt. Dan.
If you would like to help organize, give any recommendations, or help to make this less “anonymous”, your input would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Could anyone help with a neighborhood watch website and or John, possibly thread attached to the CHPN site?
I Believe that one or more of these children live at a property I manage. I strongly recommend against approaching them unless you are in a group and, frankly, armed – I have reason to believe that they carry handguns. While the neighborhood watch idea isn’t bad per se, please be careful – this could escalate into a really bad situation very quickly.
Also, if they are the kids I think they are, they won’t be living in the neighborhood much longer. I can’t identify anyone or say anything in an official capacity, but steps have been taken to ensure that they will not only be evicted, but also that no one in the area will rent to them again.
As for the police – they can’t really talk to you about the matter because they are juveniles. I suspect arrests have been made, but all of those records are sealed or hard to come by. Also, to the folks suggesting that they are not responsible for all of the crime – it’s probably a lot more than you realize. These kids (and their parents) appear to be taking advantage of the protections offered to mi it’s to commit crimes with impunity.
@CHNW – Once you get something up, I’ll link to from the Crime tab (http://chpn.net/news/crime/).
I would suggest setting this up as a group on Facebook. You can set those up with varying degrees of privacy.
Laura Daab headed up the block captains program for the area a few years ago. She may be able to provide useful information.
Apparently there is more than one person posting under the name “Chimbo” as I only spammed with the first two comments last night.
I hope all of this energy can be successfully directed into strengthening the community in a way that does not alienate many of its own members, as some of the stereotypes here make me fearful of. I am not advocating to reach out and embrace those who are participating in these criminal activities; however, make sure you are positive before you start pointing fingers and please don’t make generalizations. The last this gentrifying community needs is to make large segments of its population like boys/ young men and parents who do not appear active enough to feel persecuted.
