Man robbed, shot in the neck on Cedar Street
Woke up this AM to reports that a man was robbed and shot in the neck at Cedar and North 22nd Street overnight.
At approximately 1:00 AM, officers were called to the 800 block of North 22nd Street for a report of a shooting, according to Dionne Waugh of the RPD Public Affairs Unit. One adult male was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was shot by an unknown male during a robbery.
WTVR is reporting this as one of 3 robberies in the downtown area in a 90-minute span, saying that “investigators are working to determine if the robberies are connected.”
In year where violence in Southside has kept the city’s bodycount on par with recent years, this shocking incident puts in relief the dramatic drop in homicides in the East End this year. There have been only 3 homicides through the first 10+ months of 2014. Last year at this time there had been 8 killings. In both 2009 and 2012, the 2 years that the East End tallied a record-low 9 killings, there had been 9 and 8 killings respectively by late October.
anyone got more info on who the victim is or how he’s doing? or the circumstances? Random robbery or did they know each other?
The police have not released that yet.
The victim was my friend and he is recovering at MCV, expects to be out by Friday. Myself and my friends’ houses being identified as “party houses” seems to be attracting the attention of more than just Home Owner’s Associations in the neighborhood. Breakins and aggressive behavior and stuff have been becoming more frequent in the past year.
Tony – glad to hear he’ll be out by Friday. Could have been much worse. Party houses or no party houses, this shouldn’t be happening in our neighborhood. Be safe.
Party house or not this is unacceptable this is the 2nd shooting within 3 months. The last one was about two blocks away at 21st and venable. With the police precinct right around the corner why aren’t we seeing more patrols?
