International Baccalaureate update at Chimborazo ES

An update on the Chimborazo International Baccalaureate Program from Matt Illian:

Greetings,

It’s been a while since I sent out an update on the progress towards Chimborazo becoming an authorized IB-PYP but I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear this.

I just returned from a really exciting meeting at the school. I joined a diverse room full of Chimborazo parents and two IB representatives who wanted to get a parental perspective on the impact that IB is having at the school. The representatives are spending two days at the school to evaluate progress – both are current teachers, one from a highschool in upstate NY and the other from Hampton. They were really genuine down-to-earth folks.

During the reflection period…I heard one parent share that she’s never been very involved at the school but now she’s excited to volunteer and connect with similarly engaged parents. I heard another parent mention how they see IB reinforcing positive behavior management both in school and at home. I heard another parent share that she’s learned how to appreciate how many questions her son asks every day after being introduced to the IB philosophy.

I’m pretty confident that we all left that meeting even more inspired about what is happening at Chimborazo.

The verification pair will submit their report to the headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and we should find out about authorization in the Spring or as late as early Summer. If all goes well, I’ll have some more great news to share at that time.

Thanks to all who have helped this effort along the way. And especially to the all the teachers and staff who are giving an extra effort to give the children of Chimborazo a world class education!

Best,

Matt
