Is this because of a higher than average expected crowd or because the suburbanites from Hanover are scared to play in the ghetto?
Sorry meant Henrico
My guess is that the move could be related to recent shooting in Mosby that involved a teen from Henrico. This is one of reasons last weeks game was given an early start.
Honestly, though – I expect it’s because they expect a good turn out out. Both teams are having exceptional seasons.
Alex, apparently you also meant “ghetto”. I have some friends in Fairfield Court that take great exception to your characterization of their community. I suggest you stop and consider before you hit the “post” button.
Oh yeah Fairfield Court is a great neighborhood… one of Richmond’s finest.
It wasn’t meant as a judgment on the people who live there. In fact that remark wasn’t even meant to be my take on it, more a jab at how scared suburban folks are about coming downtown.
But since you had to go on and make a dumb comment, I will say you’re kidding yourself if you think it’s not a complete shithole. Maybe you’ve managed to make friends with a few folks who think otherwise but I’d be willing to bet that the vast majority of residents hate it too.
OOoooooh, burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn!
C’mon, anybody in any of the courts calling them anything but ghettos are looking through rose colored glasses.
Even from a strictly literal sense, our court system is a bunch of “ghettoes”. The term originally referred to forced ethnic and socio-economic neighborhoods to centralize what were thought to be problem residents (i.e., Jewish ghettos in Nazi Germany). This isn’t a whole lot different than the approach that Richmond took when they crammed all their poor residents in these neighborhoods in areas where they’d be out of sight.
The derogatory connotations associated with the term come from the bad effects that usually follow when poverty is centralized and cut off from the rest of the world. This approach has been proven to be a loser time and time again and is why anybody with any sense is calling for breaking up the projects.
All this is terribly off topic anyway. Good to see Armstrong having a great season and kicking the asses of schools much bigger and more well funded. Let’s hope they can do it again on Saturday.
I am very excited for both schools! But Henrico is hardly a better funded school system. Richmond actually spends almost $4,000 more per pupil then Henrico. Eastern Henrico is not that different from East Richmond. Now, I would love to see the Wildcats play a high school in Alexandria!
