And Dim Sum, Milton’s Local, Pudding Please, Necessary Recycling among SEED winners

In a ceremony today at Union Market on Jefferson Avenue, Bon Secours Richmond Health System announced the 13 winners for the fourth round of the SEED (Supporting East End Entrepreneurship Development) program. With this year’s grants, Bon Secours has awarded $240,000 over the past 4 years, benefiting 22 East End business startups. There are 4 new and 9 returning grant recipients in this year’s group.

The goal of the grant program is to boost business development and job creation in the East End along the 25th Street/Nine Mile corridor. All recipients must have businesses located in the 23223 zip code within the city of Richmond.

Bon Secours also announced today that with their partners they will extend the SEED program for another 3 years, for a total of $300,000 in funding through 2017.

“Now in its fourth year, the SEED program is accomplishing more than ever. A steady flow of businesses are opening in Church Hill, and the Richmond community now sees the potential that this area has to offer, ” says Candice Streett, executive director of LISC.

A few of the awardees do not yet have a presence in Church Hill. Liz Kincaid of And Dim Sum confirmed rumors that they hope to go into the proposed new construction building on the triangle in the 700 block of 23rd Street. Pudding Please is considering several locations, and Milton’s Local is looking into the necessary zoning to open in the area.
