And Dim Sum, Milton’s Local, Pudding Please, Necessary Recycling among SEED winners
In a ceremony today at Union Market on Jefferson Avenue, Bon Secours Richmond Health System announced the 13 winners for the fourth round of the SEED (Supporting East End Entrepreneurship Development) program. With this year’s grants, Bon Secours has awarded $240,000 over the past 4 years, benefiting 22 East End business startups. There are 4 new and 9 returning grant recipients in this year’s group.
The goal of the grant program is to boost business development and job creation in the East End along the 25th Street/Nine Mile corridor. All recipients must have businesses located in the 23223 zip code within the city of Richmond.
Bon Secours also announced today that with their partners they will extend the SEED program for another 3 years, for a total of $300,000 in funding through 2017.
“Now in its fourth year, the SEED program is accomplishing more than ever. A steady flow of businesses are opening in Church Hill, and the Richmond community now sees the potential that this area has to offer, ” says Candice Streett, executive director of LISC.
A few of the awardees do not yet have a presence in Church Hill. Liz Kincaid of And Dim Sum confirmed rumors that they hope to go into the proposed new construction building on the triangle in the 700 block of 23rd Street. Pudding Please is considering several locations, and Milton’s Local is looking into the necessary zoning to open in the area.

Is “And Dim Sum?, you know, Chinese dim sum. Cause A) we need Asian food on the hill and B) My only go to for dim sum just closed/turned into a Sichuanese place!
Lee – yep!
Congratulations to ALL the winners, sounds like a great group of businesses and people!
@4 Check out Full Kee on Horsepen Road, it is Cantonese and authentic, and they do dim sum but only on weekends and for limited hours (around noon). I am looking forward to the new And Dim Sum opening here in the hill! Can’t wait for pudding – want butterscotch! Yum!
@ 5/CHPN -awesomeness.
@6/crd – I used to like Queen’s Dim Sum, but I was more impressed by the range than the quality. (Not that it was bad, just not always consistent). Now they are sichuanese – which is good but, I used to live in Chinatown (NYC) and really miss dim sum, Cantonese, malaysian/singaporean…(if anyone wants to open a new restaurant, and needs ideas…)
