I ran into a 1st precinct officer at the post office today. He said Officer Turner is improving so that,s good news.
Can anyone explain to me why the officer, wounded in the line of duty, needs to scramble for funds. One (that’s me) would think that he would be completely covered in this type of situation.
@4… Same thought… I’m sure he’s still being paid by RPD and his insurance and Workers Comp are covering all medical bills.
A lot of cops have 2nd jobs. Assuming he does, he could be seeing a loss of household income while in the hospital. His hospitalization could also be affecting how his household works (impacting care of parents or kids, etc.). He probably makes around $40-50K a year as a cop.

Your posts are spot on. I clicked on the newspaper notice and it is the same verbge as the above. No info on who set this up nor why. If there are some unusual circumstances that the public is unaware of and is impacting Officer Turner, that should be made known. I am a strong supporter of our policemen, but would like to have more justification ( as you both point out ) for donating.
@6…very good point. After I posted the original comment I thought about the circumstance of many officers I’ve known through the years. Many work overtime shifts for events and such and make additional $’s above and beyond the salary. His current situation would prevent that activity if he indeed works an additional job. I too, am a huge supporter of law enforcement and am happy to help out when someone is in need. I do agree with Jean that a circumstance should be disclosed so folks clearly understand why we’re donating. Some may say that risking your life every day is reason enough to help.
