The launch of a year-round urban farm and farmers market at 31st Street Baptist Church in Church Hill for low-income residents attracted local, state and federal officials Thursday morning.
The expansion of the Darrel Rollins Memorial Community Garden includes a $10,000 hoophouse for year-round farming, a healing garden and a farmers market that will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits.
[…]
Tricycle Gardens will manage the farm, expanding its work in the neighborhood. Bon Secours will front $10,000 in the farmers market’s first year to double the value of SNAP benefits used to purchase the urban farm’s fruits and vegetables.
The new farm stand at 31st Street Baptist will replace the Tricycle Gardens Four Seasons Farm Stand which has been operating on Jefferson Avenue Thursdays since October.
